Hi all I have a Giant Trance 2 2008 which has come with a set of Alex dp17 rims and Shimano deore hubs, they weigh a lot.

Ive looked at a set of Mavic crossrides,or a set of the On-One wheelset with free Kenda tyres,or a set of DT swiss x455 rims and DT swiss hubs.

Links are below what do you think,Ive only got around £130 to spend.Im a light rider mostly riding XC and Trail centers.

Haver you had a look at the wheels on merlin? www.merlincycles.co.uk
I`ve got a pair of Merlin built wheels,XT with 717 rims and db spokes.Very good wheels, easy to service, well built.Easier to get fixed ans spare spoke s for than Crossrides.

^^ As above. Go for XM719 rims if you want something tougher, or 819s for tubeless use.

agree with the above from spiderman, however as a choice from the wheels you selected I would go for the DT ones, DT hubs are head and shoulders above most of the competition and are very reliable. I have a set of DT455 rims also and they have proven very reliable even with my ahem questionable line choices!

    Hi

My two cents worth... it depends on what you are trying to achieve. I have just had new wheels built by an excellent mechanic I know. I'm not a weight weenie so on my XC hardtail I went for Mavic XM819 rims with DT Swiss 340 centrelock hubs & DT spokes. The wheels have yet to go even the slightest bit out of true and for having true wheels I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of weight. Quality of components is far more important to me than stressing about grams here and there... however if you're after the lightest wheels possible (which is the first thing to do when trying to quicken up a bike - fit light wheels) then obviously go for the DT Swiss wheels & hubs. Best around at the moment imo.

Hi there just to let you know I have ordered a set of wheels from Chainreaction,

DT Swiss x455 rims, with XT hubs,DT swiss competition doublebutted spokes (Black) ,and I payed extra for the, DT Swiss Brass Pro-lock nipples, and velo cloth rim tape.

£128 inc free 48 hour courrier delivery.

I think these should do the job and well inside my budget.

Check the spoke tension after a couple of rides.
