I've been mountain biking for about 6 months now and i want to take it the next level but i'm not sure what sort of think to buy. I always loved drop off's and trails. At the moment I have a carrera kracken and I have been looking at the Giant trance and the Giant Reign X1 but they are abit over budget for me. Is there anything like that under £1500 or am i looking at the wrong type of bikes all together.

Help would be much appreciated.

What sort of terrain are you riding, and for how long? Does the Carrera let you down in any way?

Don't Giant make a Reign in the £1,500 price bracket?

    reign 2, £1350.

    Trance X2 is a good spec for £1500 as well http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.p ... 1b4s1p1737

Take a browse round the Paulcycles site in Splashers post - usualy has lots of Griant Trance/Reigns reduced.

Well at the moment i'm just doing drop off's in the garden but i'm hoping to start going to trails more often. I'm just worried that it will break because its making a few strange noises when i land.

Well, the Kraken is more geared to you average XC trail then harder rides with drops and jumps - though it does depend what you mean by drop off! There are hardtails and full sussers geared up for more hardcore riding, and at this price you will get a choice of many good quality machines.

I would suggest putting a shortlist together and going and seeing them in the flesh. Splasher mentions two good machines, but there are many more at this price - Commencal Meta, GT Idrive Force as well as hardtails like the Kinesis Pha5e, OnOne 456, Marin Rocky Ridge.
