Hope Pro II Noisy Free Wheel

Hello, I recently had my hubs replaced for Hope Pro II, which I have to say at this point I love, as do I the Hope Mini Mono's, Hope head set and all the hope bling fitted!!!, all except one very god damn annoying thing! the free wheel is just so loud! it clicks so loud people move out of the way !!!!!

On one hand it helps me loose weight as I don't stop peddling but on the other I'm fed up after 80 miles use !!!

I thought of stripping it down and lubing the the springs but after looking on the web site they don't recommend loads of lube,

Does any one else suffer with this or is there a quick fix ?

Ok as long as they are supposed to be like it I'm happy ! the hubs run well just the click was loud, i was hoping it would quieten down with a few miles.

A sound of quality ! i shall ride with pride and embrace my loud click! LOL

Mine got quieter. But that was because the springs had disappeared to nothing after 2 years. Luckily it's only a 20 minute job to replace them with no special tools!

I love the noise they make, at least they make people look up!

if it is too much for you pop the body off and ad a smidgen of grease.

How long should a Hope Pro II last? my old hub seemed to last for ever but was never serviceable, unlike the Hope. I go out every weekend and proberbly do some where in the region of 20 miles, and do a full strip down and service every 3 months, plus a check lube and clean every ride.

umm been running mine for a year now & thought about taking a look as the freehub 'buzz' ounded a bit dry - turned out it was fine but the outer freehub bearing had seized
(I only noticed as I had in pieces)

Can't say I've ever serviced my XC hub until the axle broke, then I replaced all the bearings as I had in piece anyway.. The idea pof servicing has never come to mind.

is a beautiful sound!! you dont have to slow down when people are in the way; just freewheel!! i usually strip mine every few months. done it just today in fact!!

yeah, i use it to warn slower riders to get outta the way, also handy for walkers etc.

I'm currently without my bike so using the gf's Kula, i'm missing the buzz

That's one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions! ALl depends on how you use it an how you look after it!

I got 7 months out of my Pro II rear hub before it developed a clicking noise on pedalling and when i opened it up, i noticed 2 of the 4 springs had snapped

quick phone call to Hope, £10 later for 4 x springs and 4 x pawls and a very quick rebuild and the hub is back to its old self

its loud (which i love, especially in a quiet forest as it gives you the sensation of being chased, making you go faster!) and feels as crisp as the day it was bought

the best thing about Hope is being able to pick up a phone, and talk to someone who knows what they are on about, and being able to quickly get all the spare parts

I have friends using Taiwanese made hubs that have had to rebuild a wheel because they couldn't get a small spare part, and i have had this experience myself

this is why on my MTB I will always run Hope hubs, and on my BMX run Profile hubs...you can get spares for both allowing a full rebuild, meaning a long hub life and less $$ strain on the wallet
