Dropped a clanger?!!!!! Rotor/Caliper compatibility question

Hi,

I've just bought a set of Hope hubs laced to Mavic rims.... The thing is the hubs have a 5 bolt spider to mount the disc. It already has 180 mm Hope discs on it.

My question is, can I use any disc brake, or am I restricted to Hope? I was about to order a set of Hayes Strokers, but I thought I should ask first!

Thanks!!!!

as long as you can get an adaptor to allow you to use whatever brakes with a 180mm disc then no probs other than if the discs are the floating type where some brake pads tabs can catch on the discs.

If you need a different size rotor at any point, give Hope a call, they will happily knock you up one to the size you need no probs.
Shut up. And ride your bike.

I've just e-mailed Hope's Tech support to see if they do a 6 bolt spider, I'll have to see how it goes. I'm sure there is always a way around everything!!!!

How old do you think they are?!!!!! I think the 321 disc rims could make them at least 6 years old?

be careful as hope are now doing there new standards 3,4? and 5 bolt fitting. that may or may not be compatible with the Old fittings.

a bit hazy on the specs as the info on Hopes webby aint the best.

Didn't realise there was a new 5 bolt standard. That's exactly what we need, more standards. I'm bored with 6 bolt and centrelock.

Joking aside, I am dissapointed that the fork manufacturers are standardising on post mount and not IS. IS forks and post mount calipers are the most elegant combination and mean no threads in the fork or the caliper to strip! But then I suppose if you sell forks.....
