The train was going to be £200+
I plan to drive from West London to Fortwilliam. Not 100% sure when I'll leave as I had planned to leave Thursday (5th June) eve (by train). Don't want to drive overnight so it'll either be straight after work on Thursday or very early morning friday.
Leaving Fortwilliam on Sunday (8th June) afternoon.
Taking Toyota Avensis Saloon so fairly comfy, not squished into a fiesta! May be able to borrow Volkswagen Passat deisel for economy.
I don't mind driving but anyone insured for other cars could share (bring your insurance cert)
Journey should take about 6ish hours and total petrol/deisel should be about 120 - 150 pounds. So with 3 passengers it shouldn't be more than £45 - £55 each. Not bad for a return journey!

Good plan my man, just one word of warning: London to Fort William is likely to take around 9-10 hours. You're talking just over 500 miles distance, and the route north of Glasgow (just over 100 miles on the A82) is on beautiful winding single-lane roads. It's a cracking drive, but difficult (especially after having driven 400 miles previously) and slow (factor 2.5 hours from glasgow). So, in short, give yourself plenty more time than you're currently thinking and preferably take a second driver.
Enjoy yourself at Fort Bill!0 -

Maybe I was being optimistic. I drive London - Aberdeen pretty regularly but never to Fort Bill. Are you going? Been before? If you're there then you'll see me. I'll be the one with huge bags under my eyes!
Thanks for the advice. Will probably leave Thurs as early as possible then.

My friend once drove back to south coast from fort bill, just him driving. Took around 14 hours. owch. not recommended. his eyes were bloodshot from staring (and booze the night before!)0

No - I've got an exam on the Saturday, otherwise I'd be there! Of course, my timings all based on it taking about 6 hours to get to Glasgow - it's only 400 miles, so could be done in a much shorter time if you're in a hurry
Have fun anyway, and give Peaty an extra cheer from me!0 -
Just to give you and idea it takes 3 - 4 hours by car from edinburgh.0

Ok, it may take anywhere between 6hrs and 24hrs depending on which way the wind is blowing.
Anyone up for the adventure?0 -
im lucky as it takes about an hour from where i am, you could alternatively drive up to callander and turn to oban/fort bill then turn on the A82 at crianlarich, the 82 between glasgow and there is always heaving on a friday0
