There are 2 cats in our house. One of them decided it would get up at 3AM this morning, and have a little "run-around" including meowing really loud. It also scratches at the door, it did it so much at 3AM that I had to put the vacuum cleaner in the way.
They are awesome though - Wouldn't consider a dog after having cats for so long.

i hate cats so bad  dogs rule fact cats just wander into your house and crap all over and you find them in a corner sleeping0
-
Cats only crap in a house if they can't get outside, they don't shit on their own territory normally, that's why next door's cat will crap in your garden, not their own
Cats are so much less demanding than a dog, no leg humping, no taking them out for 2 walks a day, plus I really don't like the idea of having to clean up dogshit
Cats FTW!0 -
We've got 5 of the buggers!...all house cats too..they do my bloody head in...the Hubby loves em tho..i'd rather have a Jack Russel....Dogs Rule...fact0

I'd rather have a cat than a dog. Used to have a cat when I was younger, but not had a pet in years now.

Got 3 cats and a dog. Our cats are so much more intelligent than our dog. Would far rather have cats though treating them can be a pain in the ass sometimes.0

Some dogs may well be more intelligent than cats, working dogs for example, but cats are far too clever to be bossed around by humans0 -

not really POD on PB with the cat following you is it?
Oh Cats rule. Dogs just chase things."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I've treated a lot more dog RTA's over the years than I have cats. It is certainly true that many cats do get run over (approximately 18% in fact) but because they're so quick you don't stand much change of avoiding them.
There are a few intelligent dog breeds such as border collies but they are generally lower in apparent intelligence than cats.0 -

Dogs have owners. Cats have butlers.
We have two, and I do like them most of the time but the younger little sh*t keeps bringing in dead young birds and hiding them under the couch. In spite of the fancy flashing, beeping "Liberator" anti bird collar! So currently in the market for the worlds biggest cow bell to hang round his neck.0 -

And that why cats are such a bloody pain in the arse! At least dog owners are acknowledged as being responsible for their pets, whereas cat owners generally don't care. I've spent a lot of time and money over the last 2 years dealing with cat shit in the garden!
[/rant]
I know some cat owners are much better than this, and act properly over this stuff, but I'm afraid I get hugely annoyed with anyone allowing a pet to foul a public place!
Saying this ,we're looking to get a dog at the moment, and it's going to be hard work to persuade my wife to bag the poop. Might be me having to do it all. :?Proved by testing to be faster than a badger.

Can of worms!!
I like the bit about cats owners being butlers, very funny!
Don't think you can be held responsible for a cat crapping on someone elses lawn, but I [/i]do[/i] think you can for a dog doing the same thing. I just think that owners of a dog make the choice that they have to be more responsible than those with a cat.
I love them - Right little characters.0 -
Not wanting to start a ruck but how is a cat owner meant to control where the cat craps? Short of confining the cat completely indoors?0
-
Thats what I was getting at. As a dog owner you know you can't let the dog out on its own to crap where it wants, but as a cat owner you can. It just is.
And lets start a ruck. Cats are way better to own than dogs.0 -
I know it's virtually impossible to stop a cat crapping where it likes, but that doesn't mean I forgive it. We've got a sonic thing now that has kept the cat out of the garden for the last month, so I'm feeling much nicer about cats these days.
But I'm afraid it got to be dogs. Cats only deign to notice you at feeding time. Dogs are fab. Looking forward to, I hope, a border collie very soon. That will keep me fit!Proved by testing to be faster than a badger.

i had a cat when i was young, she was great, really sociable and loads of character. and when she needed to "go" she always dug a hole by the lettuces in the garden, and covered it up after.
but then my dad ran her over in the driveway, it was very sad...0 -
Well I've had dogs and now I've got 4 cats. Pro's and cons for both. The only one that got run over was a dog (not very intelligent) and when was the last time you ran through a cat turd on a bridleway? The cats on the other hand don't poop in the house they don't go cold like a hot water bottle at night. although when they have puch up at 2am it's not amusing.

Dogs are much better pets, cats come and go as they please, not much loyalty respect there!
And also don't you think more dogs are treated for RTAs because people actually bother taking them to the vets whereas cats get thrown under the nearest bush.0 -
One thing that annoys me about dog owners is that when you are out on a walk you often see that someone has bagged the poo then left it there. What's the point in that? You might as well just not bother, at least it will degrade with time. In a bag it's just going to sit there.0

I'm a cat person
We've got two cats which my other half is slowly getting used to (they were mine for years before we met). I think they're fab - proper little characters but not too demanding, so they can be left overnight etc. I also love the way that everything is on THEIR terms.
The only problem is that mine are fascinated by frogs and slow worms, which means many a happy hour trying to extract scared, chewed and very p!ssed off creatures from behind the sofa... :shock:Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

We've got a cat - a strange one he is too! He's a rescue farm cat, so i suppose you could ay he's semi-feral - not a lap cat that's for sure! He has a stange obsession with boxes - he will cram himself into one even if it's 1/3 of his size. Also likes to suck the "furry" side of his cushion - strange!"Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0

Ok, just got back from my ride. Got chased round the woods for a good 5 minutes by a small yappy dog. It would not go back to its owner no matter how much she tried to persuade it. Finally managed to lose it, only to meet them again on my second lap round the woods and have the same thing happen again. You'd never catch a cat acting like it's never seen a bike before!"The problem was, I was still using my eyes even though I had them shut"

I like both! All pets have unique personalities, but a different set are cats from dogs - lazy and arrogant are cats, dogs are faithful and obediant.
Here is the cat I used to live with:
Look at the size of it! Last seen roaming Bodmin Moor.0 -
I like cats. My current one was a rescue cat, and is completely and totally useless at hunting - it's never caught anything, although it has pounced on a few hedgehogs!
As for spending large amounts of money to avoid cat crap in your garden, why?
All the cats I've had have buried their crap. I was told as a child thaat they do it out of instinct, to hide their smell. If they want to mark their territorry, they pee.0 -
Pouncing on headgehogs has to be a risky game :shock:Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

indeed, but my cat is an idiot, so it has done it several times! The routine basically goees
Punce, meow/squeal in pain, jump off, run away, come back, see hedgehog again, repeat!
Usually does it about 3 or 4 times before giving up, and it always has a few scratched on it's face after!0 -
