Pro RC-50 wheels
Hi,
anybody had any experience with pro wheels?
Im interested in the 50mm carbon clinchers, carbon rim with bonded alloy braking surface and want to find the weight. I know ultimatepersuits distribute them but they dont have any weight spec on their site.
Any thoughts out there?
Take a look;

the shimano/pro website don't specify anything more than the ultimatepursuits site.
At a gues though I would say they weigh simialr to other wheels of a similar spec 1650-1750 grams. Hed jet - 1620, Zipp Flashpoint - 1744, VanNicolas - 1726, all 50mm carbon clincher with alu braking rim.0 -
Aren't PRO part of shimano? Probably find they're very similar to Dura-Ace 50mm just with different stickers, maybe?0
-
Yeah, thats right-made by shimano. The PRO wheels use ultegra hubs with 24 spokes. I think they'll be quite different to the Dura Ace with the DA being twice the price! Ill look a bit closer though-thanks!0

I have been considering the HED Jet wheels as mentioned above but kinda put off by the alu rim with carbon fairing. Should i be??
1620 for the jets is quite reasonable though i think. I suspect the PRO's are no lighter.0 -

So did you end up getting the Pro wheels yet? Any chance you can chuck them on the scales and let us know how heavy they are?
I am down to choosing between the HEDs and the Pro RC-50's.
Prefer teh looks of the Pro's but the HEDs look cool too, and weight is more important. At 1620 grams, the HED's are pretty good for clinchers, if the PRO's can match them for weight, then they win for me.
btw, I wouldn't be put off by the fact that they have alu rims - most aero clinchers are like that.
Also, personally I thought it was a bit of a rip-off when I found out that the carbon dish on alot of aero wheels is jsut a fairing and doesn't contribute to the structural aspect of the wheels. But I have an open mind and have come round - after all even some of themore expensive wheels like Corima and Mavic aeros are just fairings.0 -
I've had my HED Jets now for a week and they look really cool, but more importantly, they actually make a difference. Being light they are easy to spin-up and climb with, which was my main consideration. The carbon faring is only fixed at the rim, and I guess thats why they area light, but I don't see that as a problem.0

Woody-son,
Have you got the new Jet 60 C2's, based on the wider 23mm rim? I think these are going for about £750. Are you finding that they are tough enough for general road racing duties?
Cheers0 -

no, I went for the Jet 50 clincher. reason was that 50mm are useable in 95% of all wind conditions. the 60mm and above you have to be a little more picky on when to use them, if it was always calm I would have gone for 60mm, but 50 is a morel general purpose size and CSC use the 44mm for there race team.0

Hi guys
Due to the fact i never got a reply from ultimate-pursuits about the RC-50s they lost my interest.
I went for the HED jet 50s. Im pleased with them, although when pulled out of the box i thought '£600 for these??!!' But they do look lovely and they are comfy too. Done a road race and TT on them so far and feel quick enough. I havent ridden my old dura ace wheels since i put the HEDs on-that'll be when i notice the difference between them.
The biggest difference i have noticed with the HEDs is how they corner! Like they're on rails! They feel so stable at speed. Lets just see if they stand the test of time...0 -
By the way, to the post above-the PRO wheels are a carbon monocoque rim with a bonded alu braking surface. At the end of the day, doesnt matter what the deep section is made of, its the shape and weight that counts.0
-
So they're not just carbon fairlings then. Ok that makes them even more interesting, I really want to know the weight now! Think I might have to order a set and weigh them if the shops aren't willing to weigh a set for me. Can always return them.
Sounds as if you guys' HED's are good stiff wheels if they accelerate climb and corner well. HED certainly have put a good website together, can't say the same for Pro!0 -
the HED Jet 50's are a good reliable wheel, they took Chrissie Wellington to victory in the 2007 Ironman world Championships, so if they are good enough for a pro like her, then they are more than good enough to the rest of us0

Found a site that gives an approx. weight of 1600g.

I too would love to hear from owners of these wheels. A picture of a bike with the wheels mounted would be great.0
