Hey all

I am just new to this site and I am looking for some advice on buying a freeride bike. I have between £1000 and £1500 to spend so its really going to be last years models or second hand although I would rather buy last years. Size wise I am 6ft and 16st so it is going to have to be a sturdy bike. I amnot bothered about general riding ie xc trails or that as I have an orange for that so it is going to be purely for playing at the parks and other places.

I have been looking at the following and if anyone can tell me if they have had any experience with them and if there good or not or maybe recommend something else.

Giant glory zero or one (07)

kona stinky (08)

kona coilair (08)

marin quake 7.2

orange patriot s (07)

scott gambler fr20

I really like the glory zero but wouldn't mind another orange as I have a p7 and have had no problems smashing it down forest tracks and as for kona I have had no dealings with them at all although one of the boys that I ride with has a stinky and says its great.

So any comments/advice would be grate

cheers

ryan

I've just bought a 07 marin quake 7.3 from rutland cycles for £1800 and its blown my mind away. Admittedly I haven't had a chance to test it properly in a freeride sense but I've had a few small drops (6ft max to a transition) and really hammered it down the rocky nasty descents at cwmcarn XC. I know you said you won't be using it for XC or anything but i set a new p.b. round cwmcarn XC on my quake of 1hr 13 - thats compared to a 4-6" aggressive XC/all mountain bike (1hr 15) and a steel hardtail with 5" forks (1hr 19)
certainly gets my recommendation - great fun.
i was also gonna mention a patriot but see you've short listed that too :)
