3 months old and the inner and middle chain ring on my 2008 XT need replacing.

The XT rings seem a little fragile and an MTB buddy has suggested steel Deore. Any other alternatives worth considering?

Middleburn? or deore depends on how much you want to spend.

    The chainset is this one:

I've suffered chain suck for a little while and checked the OE chain the other day to find the chain badly worn. New chain. Rear cassette also badly worn in a couple of gear. So new cassette as well.

I've had a look at the chain rings and they don't look too bad but the operation tells a different story. The inner sometimes fails to release even in dry conditions and play can be felt in the middle. For the sake of it I might as well change both.

i don think middleburn have make any chainring for 07xtr or 08xt yet
go look for some action about 07xtr middlering, ti +composite should last longer than xt

if im you i will first get a xtr chain and see how everything goes, also check this site c if you can fix the chianstuck

undo the chainring and give it a good clean, and let the newchain run for around 50km and give a bit adjustment to the f and r mechs

if your chainset id an OE and you bought that bike, try to go back to the shop and report this to them and c they can sent it back for you

blimey i thought the 08 xt middle rings were steel on carbon? arn't they supposed to be alot more durable than last years alloy rings? did you put in alot of sandy and gritty miles in that 3 months?

howabout saint chainrings? those are supposed to be very heavy duty. I'm actually about to buy a new xt 08 crankset to replace my 07 one . Is this a common problem with the m770?

08 XT chain rings seem to be pretty backwards compatible with 07 cranks. I've replaced my 07 22T ring with an 08 one no probs. Or I am missing something?
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

I thought the 08 xt used standard pcd 108? So any standard 4 arm rings would be fine i think.

thats whats suggested by the shimano website about the 08xt compatable chat
i think its about the moddle and the outer rings
go on thsi link and c the chat at the bottom

this is just what i noticed when the 08 cranks come out
it should be fine i guess, coz i never have a chance to get 08 xt cranks and try them on so i don want to advise something im not sure
