Endoscopy

I had one today and it was probably the most uncomfortable thing (not painful) I have EVER had done to me - still making me shudder....
Anyone else had one?
For those that don't know what it is, it's a animatronic hosepipe type thing with a camera on the end which they shovve down you throat (whilst you're awake) into your duodenum and into your gut to get a look at your workings. They then put a smaller wire into it that has a sharp little 'cup' type thing on the end that snips a biopsy off....
horrid.

Did you have a sedative? Could be worse, might have shoved it up tother end ;-)0

Nope, just a little bit of Lidocaine (sp?) to numb my throat.... for what good it done.
SS I would rather of had it shoved up my anus than the other way - totally unatural... not that I am saying shoving hosepipes up your anus is normal.... oh Im going for I dig myself in any deeper...0 -
Should have called for the Valium! Wouldnt have remebered a thing!0

My dad had the hosepipe/camera/arse treatment. He said it was also very uncomfortable - he could feel it inside his intestines."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0 -
when i was in kenya i ended up with an abssess in one of my a$$ cheeks, i had to have an emergency operation (as i had been ignoring it for a week and had got to the point where i hadnt eaten for 4 days and couldnt walk by the time i got discovered) and then recieved regular "finger recces" afterwards to make sure it was recovering properly.
i dont know if you have ever been examined by a doc but you normally hear them pull on a rubber glove, i swear i could hear velcro being fastened as im sure the guy doing me (fnaar fnaar) was wearing a cricket batsmens glove.
in all fairness i did try to snip his finger off each time but he always had the leverage on me.0 -
ps, your procedure sounded pretty bad too mate, hope all is well.0

Endoscopy is not pleasant - usually advise anyone going for one to take the sedative. As ss said - means you don't really remember anything! Hope everything is fine.0

The big "C" option is nowhere near as pleasant as the endoscopy. Better to catch these things early.

Nothing that bad chaps... they thought I had a stomach ulcer but haven't . They have found several patches of inflammation/soreness that has been caused by peptic acid so have to have an ultrasound tomorrow and then go back in 2 weeks all being well and will probably be on drugs for quite some time!0

Was going to say - not necessarily being investigated for anything as nasty as cancer.
You could have given Cheesey a heart attack with talk like that!!0 -
Just pain all around my sternum and below (like a belt) and in pain (not chronic) been like it for 5 months or so, GP said it was fine but I have private medical insurance so demanded to see a specialist...
I am a total hypochondriac as well which never helps.
Just glad that it all came back OK - just have to have the Ultrasound tomorrow and fingers crossed I can get back to normal0 -
Ah my bro had the same, takes Nexium to control stomach acid.
I find too many madras curries cause it hehe0 -

My mate had to wait 18 months on the NHS for his hosepipe down the throat. in that time they told him it was indigestion, an ulcer then started talking about "C" because the drugs wern't working...turns out it was a bacterial infection, 5, yes just 5, tablets later after wards and it was all gone!
Hope all's well soonBrought to you by:

Wish everything happened like it does in Holby City (not the stabbings and surgeons interbreeding). Go to A and E. Get examined, transferred to Darwin. Top guy comes to look at you, diagoses rare tumour, operated next day. YEAH RIGHT! Try 6 months waiting to see specialist, 4 months for results and a year deciding what to do!0
