finally gone clipless

At last I took the decision to go clipless. The pedals are fitted and shoes purchased :)

I had a go on the trainer last night and it felt fine. Just one query though, I seem to have to twist my foot quite far out to get the pedals to disengage :? Will it make any difference if I tighten the tension? At the moment its as loose as it will go.

I'll have to wait until next weekend ti try them for real but in the meantime I'll be practising on the trainer a few evenings this week. :lol:

    I always thought the amount you could twist your foot before you disengaged was the float. Depends on the pedal/cleat system you have. Tightening the tension will only really affect the float if its really loose.

    You can practise all you like on the trainer, just remember as you're slowing down to stop you'll want to have your foot out well before that horrible teatering o s*** moment. Theres plenty of stories on here of stopping/forgetting to unclip moments lol (unless you break a collarbone or something in which case not so lol)

    With Ultegra I think you can get either fixed (no float) or 3 degrees float. TBH as long as its not interferring with your pedal action and not causing any joint problems, you will probably just get used to it.

    Glad you have made the decision to go clipless. Practice will make perfect (or at least better). When I first went clipless a couple of years ago I was asked if I had fallen off my bike, to which I said "no" - "you will" - needless to say I did. But it has been well worth it and I would not go back. Keep it up.

    Tried them on the trainer last night and the pedelling felt great. I've had to raise the saddle by about an inch but I guess that is down to the shoes and cleats putting my foot higher. There still seems to be lots of float, way more than 3 degrees as others have suggested. I have to twist my ankle out almost as far as it will go before the pedals disengage.

    I am thinking of twisting the cleat slightly so that my ankles are further in making it easier to unclip.

    I'm sure I'll get used to it but I'd prefer not to fall if it can be avoided.
