today at uni saw my mates bike being taxed in front of me, 3 gypo looking chavs about "1 years old, with 3 other nice bikes (probably nicked) just cut through his lock and rode away, and there was me with my bike next to me and all my sodding uni work and folders in hand unable to chase  :cry: manage to ring nath but he couldn't get there in time, i finally gave chase once i'd given my stuff to a mate but it was too late :( police were informed and cctv was checked, i spent 2 hours riding round the area asking anyone and everyone if they had seen anything, but nothing  feel really guilty about not stepping in
anyone had anything similar??

good news uni will pay £1500 as thats what nath said its worth (probably nearer £1200) but oh well

dont beat yourself up mate, thieves will be theives. its an absolute fact that i am hard as nails but even i would think twice about taking on 3 blokes (fnaar fnaar) it doesnt matter how hard you are, 3 blokes will beat one bloke no question. (unless you are some kind of fighting demon and in my experience, there are very few around)
  • nahh don't worry about it. and ignore hindsight - its a horrible thing at times.
he's getting money back from the uni so its ok on that front.
as sheepsteeth said above, stepping in on 3 chavs isn't such a good idea and if they were happy to nick it with people around they'd be happy to give you a face lift ha ha.
i had a bike nicked once - the first one i had with front suspension too! super old stumpjumper :( gives you a horrible feeling but you get over it and learn to buy a stronger lock
  • I bloody hate those little hoodrats - I really do - THIEVING SCUM!

Try not to feel too bad mate.

A lot of people woudl have done the same, despite what they might say.
  • Exactly - it's not worth getting stabbed for (or even a beating)

As we all know they are pack animals - hope they get what's coming to them.

Don't worry about it - as Chaka Ping said - not many people would have a go at 3 blokes - you would have to be mad to really in today's climate!
  • I wouldn't have waded in on my tod.

How many stabbed so far this year in our good ol' country?

Dot 4 in the eye hurts. Trust me
  • Where's Matteeboy when you need him? He's nails

If you're reading this Mattee, it's a joke

Like everyone has said you've got to be so careful these days. my Dad's in his 60's and he went out to tell some kids (10yr olds mind) to stop kicking a ball against his fence and they threatened to kick his head in

Don't feel guilty just treat him to a bacon sarnie and a pint on your next ride.
I hate it when people say David Beckham's stupid...its not like anyone ever says: 'Stephen Hawking - he's s**t at football.' Paul Calf
  • thanks everyone, it was just one of those surreal things when you know its going to happen before it does. we're just waiting on police report now, at least they acted quickly. means i'm taking my pedal and chain off and loosening bolts on handlebars now when i leave my bike at uni.

once again thanks guys needed bit of a lift after days events :)

  • Thats bad norco. I can understand exactly how you'd have felt. Knowing that if there was 1 guy you'd have had a good go, but you couldn't cos there was 3 of them.

At least your mate will get his bike back - But my concern would be having to keep them there in the same place.
