Hey,
Hardtail definatley for this money . You will get a bike that will last a while and you can push further. Look at the Rockhopper/ stumpjumper debate or a Rock lobster. Really nice Spec - loads better than you'd find on a full suss, unless you go second hand."You're not hardcore until you live hardcore"0 -
This was my budget when looking for a full sus - bought a Specialized FSR XC.
Can't fault it either.
There are better rides out there, with better specs, but my theory was to upgrade when things needs replacing.
Find a good local dealer that'll let you take a few bikes out for a while. Then buy the bike from them! Most will give some discount so the price will be comparable to the larger chains ans iIt'll be worth it for the customer service.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

My Stumpy was £1200 but yiou can get it cheaper.
Great frame, Juicy 5s, good Fox fork, nice finishing kit.
Climbs brilliantly, does singletrack as fast as you dare, but quite nervous downhill.
Light too.0 -
Aye up there Brent, welcome to the forum.
For £1000 you could get a pretty good bike.. hardtail-wise you'd be hard pushed to beat this focus:

Full suspension wise this looks pretty good!

Or you cold try for the likes of Trek, Giant etc....Sh....itespeed http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/1729687/

Sadly no, I'm just always amazed by the bargains they have0 -
thanks again for the suggestions
Whats the general consensus on the Spesh FSR XC comp?0 -
There's a Giant Trance (2 or 3?) which costs £1k and has been very well reviewed. Excellent frame and suspension system.
You won't find a better spec than the Focus Super Bud anywhere, but availability is limited and there are no professional reviews - although you can find a thread on here with a couple of users who have bought one in recent weeks.
Ram bikes might be worth a look, their budget full-sussers have been very well recieved and they're very reasonably priced.0 -
RIght;
My shortlist is, in order,
3)Spesh FSR XC Comp
2)Focus Super Bud
1) Giant Trance 3
Any more for any more?0 -

On offer at the minute for £999 get in there!!!Dont make me get my flying monkeys0 -
cant mate. £1000 is for the cycle2work scheme so the price has to be rrp0

I see!!Dont make me get my flying monkeys0

Superbud = 12.7kg
Trance3 = 14.02kg0 -
No, don't be lured by sale bargains. If you get a Trance you must get a 2008 model beacuse the frame is much lighter and rides really well.
But the super Bud looks like a lot of bike for the money...0 -
Marin Rocky Ridge (08)
Excellent bike, great frame and great finishing kit.
A 'burly' hardtail but more of an all rounder.
Always gets cracking reviews by all!!!0 -
As mentioned a couple of times already Focus are superb value for money. Rode a few of them at one of the demos days last year and they were all superb. the killer bee was excellent at about £850, and i think there is a model for just under a grand (raven??)
try and get to a demo day if you can. its a brillaint way of seeing what bikes you get on with on proper terrain, rather than a shop car park!!0 -
When does your voucher expire?
If it's April, it might rule out the Super Bud on the grounds that Wiggle may not have any to sell by then still.
But any of the bikes on your shortlist are an absolute steal when you're only paying £500 or £600 for them, eh?0 -
yeah it will be before April i think mate....So it might well be the Giant Trance 3 then....I'm not keen on the front forks though0
-
I think they're the weak link too, but that's easy to fix.
Just take them off before you use the bike and put them on ebay - where you should be able to sell them for around £90.
Use that money and add a bit more to buy a new Reba or Revelation (at a net cost of roughly £110 - 140 more, depending on your fork choice).0 -

Really? I just got a Spesh FSR XC Pro from Evans Cycles through the bike to work scheme (max £1000). The RRP was £1299 but it was in the sale for £999 (2007 model) and that was no problem for the B2W scheme.0 -
On One Inbred, you could build up an Awsome one for that money. check out: http://www.on-one-shop.co.uk/?&MMN_position=315:315 . Other than that Spesh are good for moneys. Hardtail fo' sure! though.0

cheers for the suggestions guys. I might look at some hardtails aswell - opinions on Marin Rocky Ridge 08??0
