Richmond 5 Dale Cyclosportives: 24 May 08

Saturday 24th May 2008
A fantastic event set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales encountering 5 different dales and 6 major ascents.
3 route options will be available: 100mile, 80mile and 50mile. (The 100 mile option is comparible to the Etape De Dales and White Rose Challenge in terms of the scenery and difficulty)

The event is really starting to take shape now.

Almost 150 entries received. (Enter on-line at www.richmondcyclingclub.co.uk)

Sportident are booked for electronic timing.
There will be 2 feed-stations on the 100 mile option and 1 on the 50 mile option.

Post-event catering is currently being finalised but all participants can rest-assured that they're in for some tasty treats afterwards! Previous years have seen us get a very good reputation for our refreshments and hospitality. 2008 is guaranteed to see the bar raised to a whole new level. This should be finalised within the next fortnight.

On-line entry available through the Richmond Cycling Club website: www.richmondcyclingclub.co.uk (follow the link on the homepage)
Entry fee is £15 (increased from 2007 due to a higher level of event organisation - still very cheap compared to most other events).

The event is part of a wider itinerary of cycling events: The Richmond Cyclists' Meet (see www.richmondcyclingclub.co.uk for further details). On Thursday 22 May, there will be a 26 mile SPOCO Time Trial in Swaledale and Wensleydale. Sunday 25th May will see regional level road racers take to the traditional Waitwith circuit for the Arthur Caygill Trophy. Monday 26th May sees the National Grass Track championships return to the Richmond Velodrome and we've hi-jacked a round of the Croft-Circuit Closed Circuit Criterium races on Tuesday 27 May. Shaping up to be a fantastic bank holiday weekend of cycling.

For the non-cyclists, the Richmond Meet offer an alternative weekend of entertainment, including a week-long fun fair in Richmond Town Centre, the famous Sunday Funday in Richmond's Friary Gardens on Sunday 25th and the traditional annual fancy dress parade on bank holiday Monday 26th. See www.richmondmeet.co.uk for a full calendar of non-cycling events.

    Hi James,

I've entered the 4 dales but was looking on your website to see when you were going to update your rides calendar, but it only shows 2007 dates, I'm interested in some of the rides you have listed there from the Dolphin centre in Darlington.

When will you be updating the calendar with dates for 2008?

    Cheers,

    Poucher
  • Poucher,

I'm hoping that the Rides Calendar will be updated shortly. The Dolphin Centre rides are, however, organised by Darlington Borough Council as part of their Local Motion Cycling Festival. We, alongside other local clubs, have been advising the council on the best way forward for 2008 and hopefully we'll see this year's programme of Darlington events published soon.

Hope this is of some help.
