Does anyone think it's worth getting something like this??

As I discovered this weekend I'm now doing some extreme XC and freeriding, all on a hardtail! I used to have something like this built into my motorcycle leathers, I did take a few spills and the system worked. Just wondering weather it's worth getting something like this for MBTing?

For XC it may be a bit OTT (you'll sweat....alot) but it's definately worth looking at padding up if you're going to be taking a few falls. Its down to personal preference, I'm happy with just my 661 Races on my legs and now looking at some arm pads as my arms are getting as cut up as my legs used to.
or you could join the hardcore/insane and ride without pads at all... but remember chicks only dig scars...not broken limbsBrought to you by:

I've got that exact armor and it's pretty much spot on for DH. Wouldn't wear on the trails though - too warm and restrictive.
If your extream XC & Freeride involves 1m plus drops and or highspeed rock gardens, stuff like that it might be worth the expense / lack of upper movement / heat. but most people are happy with a good set of knee/shin pads, elbow pads and a good helmet for most stuff.
Saying that, you can't put a price on safety, better to walks away than spent 6 weeks off the bike waiting for a bone to heal. And I'm hate to come of the back of my DH bike at full speed without my spine protector.0 -
I personally wouldn't wear that for XC, it's a little OTT!
If you're really concerned you could try just going for a spine protector.a dirtbag of the most delightful variety0 -
I used to ride BMX with just a helmet...pads made me feel really restricted and i'm also a sweaty git!
I'd say that's overkill for anything other than full on DH. Learn how to fall/bail better first!!0
