My new bike...

Finally got my bike built up on Friday night, then took it for it's first spin on Saturday morning.
Got it a little muddy!!
Managed to get the bike built up for around £500...groupset from Merlin and frame & forks off eBay. Think i'll be getting some lighter wheels next payday, and getting rid of the big heavy Hone rear mech!! Didn't realise just how overbuilt the Hone parts are!
Here's some pics:

looks good mate,
what frame is it, b17?0 -
It's a Wildcat...
Originally I planned to make it a bit of a trail thrasher/freeride bike, but i've changed my mind and want to make it a little lighter and more XC orientated. I just can't bring myself to lose the flat bars!!0 -
I'm a fan of all Marins and am just about to have my 07 Rocky Ridge project built up - can not wait. It will have a Merlin groupset deal on it too.
Good for you fella - ride on."If you think straight enough, you can see round corners"0 -
Merlin groupsets are an excellent bargain!
I got the Hone groupset because (geekily) I wanted all black components!! I've changed the shifters to LX pods and the levers to Saint (looks much neater than the big Hone DC units).
Wheels will be getting upgraded to something lighter asap, and an XT rear mech on the back.
You can't beat the feeling of buiding a bike up yourself!!0 -
Looks good quite racy, I like those Marin frames.
Did you put the stem on upside down deliberately to get your nose closer to the front wheel?0 -
I put the stem on the right way up first...felt way too high, as i've never had such long travel forks!
So i've flipped it, then loved how it looked...so it shall become my XC bike now!!0 -

Hi m8 like the custom marin how much ya seling the wheels 4 and wot kind of mavics are they?
cheers. paul0 -
Erm, hadn't thought about that yet!
I'm not sure what to ask for them, i'd have to have a browse to see what they're worth.
The rims are Mavic XM321s...i'd probably want to sell the whole lot with the rear mech included, as you need it to work with the hub.0
