my birds little bro will not put a lid anywhere near his head... anyone know how you get a 10 year old lad to put one on and keep it there (with out the use of super glue)...
he rides over at the local ramps where all the "older boys" ride... see the thing is, is that they never have lids on, any of them....
the other day he fell from the top of the ramp as he about to drop in, hit the back of his head on the way down... the result, a golf ball sized lump on the back of his head and his dad at a&e for over 6 hours......
his dad asked me to go and have a word with him and see if i could get him to see its a good idea to use one.... i showed him all my pads my body armour the lid the full works... and nothing....
i know that there is nothing you can really do as if we did get him to put it on as soon as he gets over there he will just take it off...
i got to the point where iv just said b0110ck5 to him, if he dont want to put it on and wants to risk killin him self thats up to him... but, at the same time i know what its doing to his mum and dad everytime he goes out...........
i have it all the time with the young lads over my local ride, they just dont seem to give a sh1t do they?? the thing is 90% of them will grow out of this and end up getting lids and useing them all the time...
is there a way of speeding the process up??
sorry to bang on about it chaps...

show him some pics of guys that havent worn them, maybe that will change his mind rapidly0
-
take his bike off him until he agrees to waer one, simple as that
Or play the kool boyfriend of his older sister and take him to a bike shop and buy him one, unless he's a full on scrote in training he'll wear it.
I did the same with my younger brother, he's 12, got him a 661 dirt lid in chocolate brown and he loves it :idea:0 -
you won't be able to. its hardwired if a kid will wear one or not0

Keep hitting him around the head until he gets the message!

What about showing him the top riders that alot of the kids look up to in magazines vids etc riding and wearing them, could maybe tempt him into getting a pispot style one if you haven't already tried that.
Although if the older kids aren't wearing them there's prob not much hope, I know I didn't want to wear one when I was younger.0 -
Take him out and show him the best riders all wearing a lid. Point it out to him, then take him and buy him a decent lid of his own choice. No matter if he goes for style over function. Remind him he's got to wear it. After that, leave it. The odd reminder now and then but not continuous. If you keep pushing and pushing him to wear one the chances are he'll go the other way and never wear one ever! If you buy him one that looks good he might wear it. Better than definitely not wearing one!
I never used to wear a lid, on road or off! I didn't do anything crazy but looking back now I wince! Thankfully I had a pretty good preservation instinct. Hardly ever came off and when I did managed to tuck in and roll easily, keeping head well away from the ground! It was only a month ago when I started commuting regularly (through Slough in rush hour!) that I got a good one and put it on. Don't even pop up the road without it anymore!
One fine day in the middle of the night, two dead men got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other.0 -
my son's a little older - 16 now - but I won't take him on trails with me without a lid. When me first Started going on trails he felt embarrassed with a lid ... until he saw that everyone was wearing one. Of course he won't wear a lid any other time though!0

I wont ride with anyone child or adult unless they have a lid. they can have a fatal accident on their own thanks.
Take him to something like the Kona bikepark in cornwall or the Okeford hill bikepark in Dorset. He cant ride without one and will see guys much better than him wearing them.
It might get to him. There is of course that one with the MP3 player headphones incorporated.. It might encourage him to wear it so he can listen to music.I never touched it! It was broke when I got here.0 -
thanks for the replys chaps... there is some helpfull stuff there...
i have already tryed, taking him to pick his own lid, which he did but still no joy... have shown him pics of pr1cks who have taken a fall without one....
shown him pics of pros who all have them on... given him dvds to watch and told him to tell me how many of them dont have one on....
his dad has taken his bike from him but it dont stop him from going over there and going on his mates bikes....
at the end of the day he lives about 30 miles away from me so we dont ride together.. maybe i should go pick him up and take him to my local ride where 85% of all riders have got some king of lid on...
thanks again chaps iv taken you tips on board.. good workhttp://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc1/ ... ogs066.jpg
