Over the weekend someone stole my rear wheel. On looking at various sites I cant find anyone who sells the following items. Does anyone know where I can get these from? Its for a Trek 4300 2007 Disc bike. Thanks

Wheels: Bontrager Ranger rims built on Shimano M65 disc hubs
Tyres: Bontrager Jones 26 x 2.1 Inch

  • Upgrade it. Seems like an ideal opportunity to me. There's nothing that says you need to buy the same.

Go to merlin cycles and you can specify what you want. I think a decent mavic rim and xt hub should come to about £60 for a rear wheel.
  • Thanks, wanted find out how much they cost so I can make a claim on my insurance. Ideally would like to get a complete set, rather han having different on the front and back.
  • I see. Wil it be worth claiming for just the rear wheel? Is there not an excess that's going to apply?

I think you'll have trouble finding these rims anywhere. They're stock Trek items...probably only OEM. I could be wrong though.

I thought the insurance company would just replace things like for like if the original item wasn't available.

If you wanted a whole new set of wheels, Merlin are the way to go.
  • Are you looking bontrager rangers? if so you probably wont find them as i think they are specifically built for equipping treks and gary fisher bikes in the factory.

I upgraded the rangers on my gf hoo koo e koo to mavic rims and pro2 hubs and they have proved to be a very good upgrade.

If you want to look at bontrager products swinnertoncycles.co.uk is very good.

I think the next product up from the rangers are the selects which are supposed to be superb and are about £140 a set.

East Street Cycles are a Bontrager supplier, can't see Rangers on their website but might be worth contacting. http://www.eaststcycles.com/index.php
  • If it was a shimano M65 hub then i think that is an oldish lx one, a deore is m5-- and xt is m7--

I'd say xt hubs with mavic rims from merlin.
