Replacement helmet pads

Afternoon all,

Does anyone know where I can get some replacement pads for my Met Parabellum helmet? I know it's a long shot as it's over 10 years old but they've rotten away completely now and the velcro has started to dig in!

Alternatively, does anyone have any thoughts on making your own pads? I've no idea what sort of material to consider if I were to go down this route.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • I was looking for some new pads for the forehead of mine. Instead I got some soft material wrapped it around and stitched it into place.

The padding was starting to come apart. Yours sounds alot worse and Im not sure how I would do it..... Apart from cut a new pad out of some suitable cloth and sew in some velcro to attach to the helmet.

    Thanks Ian.

I think I'll have to get myself to the local haberdashers for some thin foam, soft felty material and a needle and thread...!

  • I thought you were supposed to replace helmets before they were 10 years old.

Just wear a thin beanie underneath.

I've never heard about the '10 year' rule. The lid is always stored in doors and hasn't gone brittle or anything.

    Yet.

Thankfully, the G/F is a dab hand with the needle and thread and covered the old pads with some felt material and sewed them up nicely. I'll post some pics if anyone wants a look-see...

Evans have some guys who can source things like Helmet Pads direct from manufacture, they got me some new helmet pads for my Spesh helmet
  • How weird this post appears, I have just had to order some for my Giro Havoc.

After posting, I thought I'd try to contact MET. I sent an email and got a response saying that although they no longer stock this helmet, they would send me some replacement pads (from Italy.!!) if they had any in stock.

    How kind..!

  • Had a nightmare trying to get replacement pads for my Spesh S1. It's a discontinued model so it's frackin' almost impossible to get spares. Managed to get some eventually from local shop who went direct to Spesh for me. Last ones tho. Next time I'll probably have to get a new lid.

    Just a quick update.

Following Met's email to me on the 4th, they were good to their word. A replacement set of pads arrived this morning all the way from Milan, free of charge.

Now that's customer service. A few UK companies could learn some valuable lessons from this. Makes me more likely to buy a new Met lid than any other.
