Right - me again with chainset questions

Have a 32/22 raceface diabolus with bash that I want to convert to a 38t singlering.

I was going to buy a saint but as the raceface is brand new and I do like it I thought I would just buy the ring...

I want to be able to just take apart the diabolus and install this without finding out I am missing parts/didn't order correctly etc

It's 104bcd and will be used with an E13 LG1 guide

Heres what I found:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=3334

Will this be OK as I am unfamiliar territory here

Specifically will it work with my crankarms...

If theres anything better out there please let me know

Thanks guys (n girls)

  • i have got this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=3331 about 8 months old and despite being used more than ten times more (i pratically run single ring at the front) than 22t 0r 44t xt rings it is in much better condition. your ring will fit your cranks correctly but it is ment for single ring systems so has no pins or ramps to help change gear wich will make the 22t-38t nigh impossible and also to make that leap you will find that you will have to modify your front mech quite dramaticlly (but this if done carefull does not deteriate from proformance) but middleburn rings are all incredubly stiff and hard wearing.
Ride it hard on a hardtail

You'll want a chainring peg bolt spanner as well to remove the chainrings.

That ring will be fine for a single ring setup, although you may need thinner bolts, get the middleburn narrow ones.

Alternatively betd do some really good ones. Which are cheaper

Thanks - won't be using a front mech / just the single ring - will keep old raceface ones in case I ever do want to!

all you need to do is make sure you get a chainring thats the same bolt pattern as the crank arm, i recently bought a pair of fsa maximus dh cranks to replace the raceface xc ones on my coiler and i just switched the middle chain ring onto the new cranks, seems to work fine with the E13 srs and supercharger ring

  • Well, the only thing now is that I don't understand this part...

At the moment I have 2 rings plus a bash ring

So I lose all of the rings so I am just left with the Drive side crank arm...

Attach 104bcd Middleburn ring to Drive side arm with bolts (short or long? - short I am guessing)

    What about spacing/spiders etc

I'd order these bolts, they are the narrow ones and should work fine. They are pretty standard cranks, so the narrrow bolts should work fine.

The spider is built into the crank arm, look on CRC at the diablolus without rings.
  • Great Stuff...

    Have ordered:

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=7064

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=3334

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... odelID=391

So that's all I need then...

Not running a bash - just the LG1

Going for all black with a gold bolts for that tarts-touch

See what you mean - so I only have to attach the Middleburn ring (with new bolts) onto the arm - leaving the spider as is....

    the penny dropped!

AND cheaper than buying a Saint and having to go to the trouble of selling my RF for sillymoney!

Ring does not fit Diabloous cranks, CRC could do with putting this in the description!!!!!!!!! 20 quid wasted!!

Just saw this in the bloody review bit on CRC!

  • Have emailed middle burn about the Diabolus issue (to see of they do fit) and have canceled by CRC order until I get confirmation back from them...

The build has cost me £3k - not gonna worry about a couple of quid on some bolts - adds to the 'custom feel'

    PLUS they are gold

    the diablolus are 104/64bcd

So i'm pretty sure that once the rings are off they'll see that the ring does fit...
  • Spoke to Middleburn today and indeed the Raceface needs filing down to fit - but to be honest I don't want to have to be filing down a brand spanking new set of crank arms..

    SO am buying this:

    http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDeta ... ctID=10589

Slightly more expensive but at least I won't have to start filing things down
