Ive got a new frame on the way and am thinking I want to have a full Shimano XT 2008 drive train. Is there anything from the below list which I may have forgotten?
Rear Derailler XT 2008 Long Cage
Crankset and bottom bracket XT 2008
Chain 9 speed
Cassette XT
Shifters XT
Cables
Looking around it comes to about £230 from memory
Do you know if there is anywhere which sells the full groupset? I cant seem to see the full set together anywhere? Im going to get the LBS to fit the bottom bracket as I heard it would wear out quickly if not fitted properly.
Any other recommendations or combinations which would save weight without breaking the bank would be great!
I have a Marin Nail trail frame which will have Reba SL forks and the rest of the gear from my old mongoose tyax.

Merlin sell groupsets at good prices. The frame will need the BB shell facing; it may already be faced if new though. This esnures the faces and bearings are parallel.0

http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=produ ... egoryId=83
for groupset at £249 and

You can also have a look at

for all types of groupset.0 -
Merlin only seem to have the 2007 groupo, odd! Forgot to add, they come with brakes.0
-
Just buy the parts individually from wiggle, i think that is cheapest what with the 10% off0
-
I think for once CRC is better on price then Wiggle for the majority of the parts.0
-
forgot about brakes haven't you?Best quote ever (pinkbike): "i've heard that Hill pees, deffecates, vomits and masturbates before each race to keep the weight down"0

Im going to move across:
Reba SL fork
Hope Mono Minis
All the other parts
Im thinking of getting these:
Shimano XT Chainset HollowTech II M770 170mm 4-Bolt 22.32.44
Shimano XT Cassette 9 Speed M770 11-32
Shimano XT 25th Anniversary R-Mech & Shifters Shadow SGS R-Mech - 9sp Shifters
Shimano XT Front Derailleur Conventional M771 28.6-34.9 Dual Pull
PC 951 9sp Chain
And save for:
Hope Headset 2007 Black 1.1/8"
RaceFace Next XC SL Carbon Riser Carbon 610mm-1.5" Rise - 31.8 Clamp
RaceFace Evolve XC II Stem 100mm 6 Deg Black 1.1/8" 31.8 Clamp
Not sure what stem to go for to be honest, the one on my current bike is a standard came with the bike job.0 -
Great chocie of kit: I have RF NEXT bars, lovely. I'd get the PC971 chain, just that bit more durable.0
-
Should go together nicely I hope.
Is that Stem OK? Ive not seen much about it to be honest. I cant seem to see why a Hope one at 60quid would be much better?0 -
Quite simply, the Hope wont be. The reason why it costs so much is because Hope CNC them fully, and are a small outfit. I used to have an Evolve MK1, no problems. Its very rare stems fail anyway when used and fitted properly.0

This is what I am using:

Weighs 126g, has taken a battering at Wharncliffe, cheap, looks great: the nigh on identical OnOne stem got 10/10 in mbuk. Great XC/trail stem.0
