Hello all,

Going to Swinley Forest on Sunday so I thought I would ask a few questions.

1.) Does anyone know the trail conditions at the moment, are they really muddy?

2.) Does anyone happen to have any Memory map overlays of good routes, which they could e-mail me?

3.) Would anyone fancy meeting up for a ride or maybe do a little guiding.

Cheers

Robin

Providing the weather is good, I'll be up there around 11ish.

It doesn't get too muddy, even with a lot of rain.

  • We had a very good day, the trails were really good and not to messed up. We got lost a few times, there is single track every where......lol

Would be nice to go with some one who knows the area well, i felt there was a lot we did not cover.

The car park was really busy is it normally like that ?

If any one fancies meeting up one weekend for a ride at Swinley Forest let me know. Maybe we could organize a BR meet.

When the weather is good the car parks are full. The trails hold out really well, even with a lot of rain.

I didn't see you in the car park.

  • i was there yesterday, 27th... boy it was busy, never seen it like that before but i did go around midday (normally go earlier or later). I'd be up for meeting up with some peeps next time, been riding there a while and think i've discovered most of the best bits of singletrack.

When are you thinking of going next?
  • Does anyone have an idea what are the best public and / or by bike connections to Swinley Forest, travelling from Richmond, ideally for a saturday ride?

    cheers

Sun 24th is the next time i'll be there. I'll post back on here closer to the date, as well as the'other' forum.

I think Bagshot is the closest train station.

I think Bracknell might be a better option for trains from Richmond. Doesn't look too far from the station to the Lookout Centre at Swinley.

I usually go riding swinley on my own, will be down there from about 8am tomorro mainly due to having stuff to do in the afternoon, theres a good few bits for hard xc and a couple of nice jumps/drops for freeriding. Just ask people for a) the jump gulley (anyone on a bike will know where this is) from there ask for directions to the labrynth (its at the top of surrey hill so if they never heard of the labrynth ask for surrey hill!) - which has got a savage xc route and also a tasty route called the "babymaker" with 2 sets of 3 tabletops, and some lush burmage! I think they're also digging out a walkway for the lazier people among us to push back up once uve hammered the jumps! rreeeeesult!! Wherever u go tho, theres loads of little bits to pish about on, enjoy!!
  • Personally I'd get there by going to Bagshot Trainstation to avoid minimum road riding.

Once you get in to the forest it brings you out right in the mountain bike area.

You will have to buy a permit online in advance though as you enter from opposite the look out.

    Directions

From train station head out towards Bagshot going West.
When you meet road with traffic lights turn left
Then take the next right (You will pass a church)
Follow up hill and take right down Vicarage Lane (signposted).
    Then your in the Forest!
Takes about 5 mins from train station.

If you download a map Vicarage Road/Lane is normally signposted.

Today some parts are still a bit boggy. Give it a go I'm sure you'll enjoy.
