for just a basic wired speed, odo, time, lap etc the cateye enduro 8 works alright,

I have the strada as well, has performed flawlessly so far, much better than the other wireless computers Ive tried in the past, I like the easy way to switch between the functions.

Just avoid the cheaper wirless ones, had a Halfrauds one and the wireless wasn't powerful enough to reach the bars (literally 2 inches short).

I now use a Trek one, incite 8i, works well, seems to match my Garmin GPS fairly well on speed and distance measurements.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

Ive just ordered a YPK Chronopulse HRM from Wiggle:

Wireless plus heart rate monitor for a mere £20 :)
Wow great ship man. Looks like a fish, flies like a fish, steers like a cow.

Second vote for the Cateye Micro, very cheap for a wireless.

Let me know if the back light works when it arrives. I sent my first one back because it didn't, and now the replacement one doesn't work either. Unless of course I'm being incredibly stupid...
  • Hi Milese

Its turned up and the back light function seems to work, pressing the left button puts it on for a few seconds. It says in the little manual that pressing the right button and holding it down puts the light on and does some other functions as well though cant remember off hand.

Not tried it out in anger yet as been too busy working to ride but everything seems ok so far. Will post up a report once I get round to it :)

Any reviews yet? The back light on the second one still doesn't work, but I've not got round to sending it back yet.

Also the HRM seems to read very low, and always reads when I've not even got the chest strap on! I've got a Polar watch style HRM as well, so I'll try them out, together, but there is no way my heart rate stays that low!

I moistened the chest strap before putting it on with a bit of spit, is that right?

I'm thinking about getting my money back on it now, and getting something better.

Any recommendations for something reliable, lots of features inc HRM, back light and possibly with cadence?

    Garmin Forerunner / Edge 305

Don't think it's a GPS, it is much more & definately a good training aid.

At just over 20 quid the vectra wireless is very good. Five function and can be mounted on the bars or stem. Very nice.
A bit more pricey is the Strada Wireless

This is extremely small and seems better than some wireless models ive seen

I lost my enduro 8 this morning,it just pinged-out of the mount at some point on a fast bumpy downhill. This had happened more than once before, but I'd always spotted it and got it back. Maybe I've been unlucky, but this could be a design fault? Anyone else come across this problem? and can anyone recommend a MTB-suitable computer that stays attached to the bike?

Mine died after under a year, in fact it was the first time some mud got on the sensor... Opened it up, and looked completely dry and mud-free on the inside, but it never recovered. Apparently they have a 2 year guarantee tho, just not had time to take it back...
