Amazing material - Nikwax Analagy

Just got a jacket made of this stuff - it's absolutely amazing!
The brand is Finisterre and actually aimed more at surfers (most surf clothing is "cool" but functionally useless) and they make a couple of very technical jackets.
I've had a few "decent" Gore-Tex ones but this stuff is on another level.
It's so soft and light that it feels like it can't be waterproof, yet it repels any water, but it's about five times more breathable than pretty much any other material and it still works even when punctured.
Because it's so breathable and warm, you can shed other layers.
Not sure if the bike industry have cottoned onto it yet but this stuff is perfect for bike wear. I think it's used a lot in walking clothing and the Special Forces use it (it's so soft that it's "silent"!) as well as Mountain Rescue teams.
There's more info on it at: http://www.directionaltextiles.com/
And that surf company is at: http://finisterreuk.com (Storm Track which I have and Humbolt are made from it).
Okay, I'll shut up now.

Was thinking more of the bike industry adopting it but then I guess they might charge even more!0 -
Paramo have been making outdoor clothing from the same stuff for years.
The Velez smock or the 3rd Element jacket are the most suitable for cycling.
Good for winter wear, too warm for summer.
In fact that Humboldt top looks like it is a rebranded Paramo Velez. Paramo stuff is often available at a substantial discount if you keep a lookout - Velez £136 here, down from £1800 -

Paramo is Nikwax - it's a brand under the Nikwax name. Finisterre are the only ones allowed to use the stuff for "glide sports" like surfing, boarding, etc.0 -
