Hey,

Currently running a giga pipe dh and its started to get a bit worn out because one of the lock rings came undone, stuff got in and made a mess.

At the momentI have husselfelt cranks at the moment and a truvativ box guide 2, i was wondering if the howitzer bb will be compatible with my husselfelts and/or my boxguide (its bb mounted).

On crc the only size available is 51mm chainline but you can get 56mm, what does this mean and how and what do i measure to find out if it'll fit?

Any othe external bbs worth looking at, and if so why?

Hope you guys can help, sheer Jack

howitzer bb can only be used with howitzer cranks iirc. i dont know about your boxguide. hussfelts i think are isis splined.

Howitzer cranks aren't a model of crank, it is an interface. So modern Hussefelts can be used with a Howitzer BB, but they say Howitzer on them

If your cranks are older, as GarsR6 says, they probably use ISIS, in which case they should say ISIS on them like this

Your best bet for ISIS cranks is the SKF BFR-300 http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/Produc ... 643ef1817c

Ah mine are from '05 and say isis on them so that mean i wont be able to fit it right?

What alternative external isis bb are there? and how do they rate compared to the howitzer?

They bb on leisure lakes for example how good is it?

then you will have to use an ISIS bb no external bearings for you unless you get a new crankset.

Not quite true, there is this http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/acatalog/i ... _isis.html but it's a bit of a joke.

The SKF BB is the best ISIS BB there is, so you can choose between that or a new chainset really.

ok, might invest in a new crankset aswell as bb, because i have been told that external bbs are alot strong and will last longer than what i have atm

That's true, but I doubt an external BB would outlast an SKF ISIS BB and would cost you a lot more.

In case you haven't heard of them, SKF are the biggest bearing manufacturer in the world.

    Just wondering...
Isn't the FSA on the weblink the same as howitzer?
I mean, howitzer is just a longer axle with external bearings and ISIS splines, right?
Or is there something else to it? Is that FSA compatible with howitzer?

AS it is X type then yes.

Get the bb shell faced if it has not already been done.

Could you please help me with the questions on my previous post, nick? Are ISIS and howitzer splines identical?

yes but the bb and cranks are not cross compatible.

because they are not. Just because the spline is the same does not mean they are interchangeable.

ISIS with ISIS and Howitzer with Howitzer.

I think it's because the howitzer axle is longer and, if you were to put isis cranks on it, that would make the chainrings on the crankset move outwards aswell as the pedals.
Howitzer cranks are less bent outwards, so if you were to put them on an isis bb they would be to close and could even touch the chainstays.
An Isis cranks and howitzer bb combination could probably be used to achive a good chain line for a 150mm rear hub, but the pedals would still be too far apart...I'm just guessing :)
    Thanks, Nick!

Nope it would be too far out even for that.

i have a howitzer ruktion single crank and howitzer bb which i took off my bike and replaced with hones double. i also have an old(1 year) hussefelte double isis crank and i have tried to fit it to the howitzer bb but it seems the splines are slightly different shape and it wont even go near it. yet the ruktion slides on with ease.so mabe they arent the same interface?
