Looks great in those colours. I just picked your original bike's twin brother from Sigma today - maybe I should stick a 13 on mine too and see how I get on !

But joking aside, that is impressive customer service.

cool - what size did you get? what is the rest of the build spec?

That is, quite frankly, remarkable customer service, and has in a single shot changed my opinion of a brand that up until now I would not have considered..
    Fitter....healthier....more productive.....

Break that one and they'll send you a new bike and a team car to follow you around.

    i know - very impressed

there is actually an intermediate step that I didn't explain cos my write up was turning into an essay
    - when I said I didn't particularly like the 2008 colours - they said "would it look better if we fitted our new S-Works carbon chainset to it?"

which i agreed to (thinking of it's ebay value to pay for the overall project) - however when it arrived i realised that the chainset has a specific frame with an oversize, non-std bottom bracket - with bearings pushed into the BB. The whole thing looked good and was light but i really wanted a std bottom bracket - when i emailed to confirm if it was a proprietary BB - they said "yes it is - we should have explained that really - do you want us to send you a stock frame instead?" - so the frame you see in the pics is actually the 3rd frame I have had!!

It's also a 54 and a pretty basic build - all Ultegra SL compact, with Deda Newton bars and stems and, for summer, my DT RR1450 wheels.

that sounds nice - I thought they were all out of 54's

ultegra SL will compliment the frame just sweet - and you can be assured that the frame is designed around the 12tooth shimano cassette!!

the frame is lovely to ride by the way - you'l love it!
  • Is that one of those Specialized Toupe saddles on your bike? What do you think? How did you know what width to buy? At the moment I'm using Selle Italia SLR on bike but it doesn't seem very comfy...........................and they look dated! For me, minimalistic is better - tend to veer away from womens's saddles as too much padding.

How cool does your bike look!! Speicialized stuff has come on leaps and bounds - S-works boa shoes are best shoes I've used.

Not sure I could get away with white saddle though!!

OK - so digging this thread back out - a lot has happened since I put forward my dismay at the 13-tooth sprocket fouling the frame...

I wrote an email to specialized UK - just though the 'contact us' section on the website. basically I asked if the frame was really not designed to accept a 13-tooth cassette or could there be something amiss in the moulding of my particular frame. I also asked that if it was the former then why was this the case on the roubaix model when I would have thought it obvious that people are going to put lower gearing on it than say the Tarmac model..

I didn't really ask for anything as such - it was more of a moan than anything else - and I figured I would get fobbed off with a std corporate response.

they responded the next day to request my phone number and I received a phone call the next evening from the customer service manager in the UK. he said he had good news and bad news for me - the bad news was that they had checked with specailized in the US and found that the frame was not made to accept a 13-tooth cassette - so my choice of gearing would not work in the frame. The good news, he said, is that they feel they should have made it clear on the instructions that it wouldn't accept this gear, that they were sorry I had damaged the frame in this way and that they would like to replace the frame for me!

and if id' like to pick a size and colour they would like to send me a new top-of-the-range "2D" helmet as a gesture of goodwill!!

excellent - i thought! - i picked a medium in the silver colour, emailed them and it arrived the next day! (it's an excellent helmet by the way!)

so i stripped the frame off and they arranged for it to be collected by courier - which it did. I then emailed them to make sure that they could still source a 2007 model frame. i got an email back in minutes to day that it might be difficult - would I perhaps accept a blue gerolsteiner one?? - I got an email about an hour later to say that they couldn't track down a 2007 model at all and could I take a 2008 one.

So now I have a new 2008 model s-works roubaix, with a new helmet for my trouble. I still can't fit the 13-26 cassette but I have a 12-26 in place which seems fine. I have to say that the 2008 colors look better build than on the web and now i've built it up i much prefer the new model colourscheme.

anyway - I am really very impressed with specialised - i really didn't expect to get the frame swapped and it's not something I was specifically looking for when i emailled them - but they have done it and for that I think they deserve a mention for top customer service - and here's the new bike....

Seeing the position of the mech with the chain on the third sprocket, I would be tempted to add another link.

elaine day - yes the toupe is very comfy - looks like a torture device, but is actually reallly comfy - even across a long day ride.

smokin joe - yes - the chain is too short - i removed the link to make it the right length and then realised i had to take another out to be left with the two inner links for the KMC joining pin - doh!!

    new chain on the way..

Gkerr4 - I don't suppose you could take close up a few pictures of the cabling coming from underneath the bar tape?

I think I've left my outer too long as they look a bit funny - yours look better than mine, so it'd be good to see a few bigger pics.

no probs - i'll do it tonight.

i found it quite tough to be honest - the bars don't turn to opposite lock any more - not that I generally need to and in some ways it stops the bars from swinging into the frame - but it didn't feel right cutting them so that would happen.

    will post pics later.

Well that's put my mind to rest I think.

Compared to mine they are very short, but that's good - they are a hell of a lot tidier than mine.

I was scared to cut them too short, but it seems they can go a lot shorter than what I've got now.

Dug this thread out from the past eh!

Those of you long enough on here might remember the excellent customer service i recieved from specialized in 2008 when I needed a new frame through fitting incompatible gearing (13-26 campag)

welll... they have done it again!

I got my bike out to give it a clean last Wednesday - say a dirty mark on the seat-tube - tried to wipe it off and "uh oh" - it's not coming off and i can feel it!

    it's a crack!:
    P1070751.jpg

Anyway - sent a quick email to the guy i dealt with last time to see if he still worked there - he did - so sent another with a couple of pictures attached to ask what he thought - he replied within about an hour to say that it was "expired", that he couldn't explain it and that it wasn't a common thing and that, thankfully, I had a lifetime warranty on it and they would repace the frame.

so i stripped the frame off and couriered it on Monday this week - they received it tuesday, asked me to confirm size and colour and they send me the new one that day which arrived on wednesday - my new 2011 S-Works Roubaix SL3!!:

and here it is built up with new cables (internal cabling) and bar tape:
(note - it doesn't get used on a turbo - just for setting the gears up)

Not bad eh! (i know that people STILL won't like the blue/tobacco PR3's but i like 'em)

    Ferkin' nice one!

Bet you are a lifelong Spesh owner now?

Must admit they seem to look after their customers better than most.

I have had a couple of helmets from them on their crash replacement programme- new helmet arrives in post at half price next day.
