is 12.2 kg a respectable hardtail weight?

Just rebuilt my circa 2000 stumpjumper hardtail with RS Rebas, new wheels and a few other bits & pieces

total weight is 12.2 kg (26.9 lbs). Is this a respectable weight, or could I have better spent my money buying a brand new £500 bike?? :)

27 lbs is quite light for a bike in the £500 category, I'd be happy with that. My cross bike weighs 24lbs with cantis and rigid front end. In any case weight isn't the only criteria that determines how good a bike is. You've specced the bike to your own choice and had the satisfaction of building it up and knowing it was done properly. Hope you enjoy riding it.
  • Thanks, don't get me wrong I'm not overly worried, just wondered what a sort of benchmark weight might be. Out fora debut spin tomorrow so looking forward to that.

£500 bikes are usually over 30lbs AND won't have a fork anywhere near the quality of a Reba. Money well spent if you ask me.

12.2 is a fair weight. my reba equipped fully is 12kg less pedals.

ooooh, loving the 1960s Gulf Oil colour scheme on the frame!!!

Looks like a proper racer - I do love the early 2000 geometries that were the norm then...

One of my favourite bike frame colours of all time, that Stumpjumper.

Glad you mentioned the rims though, so I didn't have to. Very new rave!

I could never part with that frame, as you say the colours are great. It orginally had orange forks & saddle to match but they had both seen much better days.

I got the wheels cheap, wonder why ;) They might not last too long
