'Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day' -- Really?

I heard a brief mention of the debunking of the 8by8 myth on BBC brekkie, but didn't have time to watch, so did a bit of googling and found this:

Bloody scientists, wish they would make their minds up.

This Paragraph is my fave:
'Careful peer-reviewed experiments have shown that caffeinated drinks should indeed count toward the daily fluid intake in the vast majority of persons. To a lesser extent, the same probably can be said for dilute alcoholic beverages, such as beer, if taken in moderation'.

Whoo-hoo beer counts as water intake
If you see the candle as flame, the meal is already cooked.

I could have told everybody this, went away for a lads weekend a couple of weeks back and we drunk nothing but beer for three days solid, and I was never thirsty.

I uderstood that a bit of the original science was missed out or certainly missrepresented- in that you get a lot of your water from food anyway. Supplementing it is no bad thing and I like a good drink
