Tire/Fork pressures

Hoping someone might be able to tell me whether I should be running higher or lower pressures in my tyres and fork in the mud? I'm riding a pretty basic hardtail with 120mm fork and 2.1 inch tyres.
At first I thought i should be running higher pressures than normal in both in the mud so that the bike cuts through the mud easier, but then I thought that lower pressures would allow the bike to sail over mud rather than through it.
It'd be great if somone could gimme some advice
Cheers

fork stays the same.
thiner tyres or higher pressures. (depends if you can afford new tyres)."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

the way to tackle mud is have a fatter (or lower pressure) tyre on the front, to ride over the mud, and a thinner (or higher pressure) tyre on the rear to cut into the mud for traction.0
