In winter, my top half's catered for by a Brynje 'holey' vest, a no-brand fleece then a Pace Winteractive jacket. But me puir legs 'n' feet! I use Ron Hill 'Bikester' leggings but incessant rain can see me ending-up feeling a bit sorry for myself. (As for feet, please see my other post.) Anyone recommend a commonsense, hopefully inexpensive solution, please?

Thank you,

  • Just got some cheap DHB waterproof trousers for 16.99, wore them out on Sunday when it was pretty warm and dry and had no real overheating/sweating issues. They did keep me dry though when I fell in a puddle. Worth a shot at the cheap price I reckon.

Edit: Got them from Wiggle, and the ar$e is a bit baggy.

Get some waterproof bottoms, something like Endura Event if you can stretch to that kind of money and will last you years

Feet wise either get some overshoes or if you don't like the look of them then get some sealskinz merino wool waterproof socks, excellent in winter, keep your feet warm and dry

    Thanks, both.

Er, Tim, if you knew how I'm built you'd also know there'll be no loose material in the derriere region: who ate all the Power Bars?! And tmg, where do I find the Endura ones (in the Event that my Voyage Down The Back of The Sofa ends in a haul of doubloons)?

Thanks again (and for the tip re keeping the ole tootsies warm, too).

Have a look on all the usual sites, wiggle, CRC, Merlin, Stiff etc.

that link will take you to waterproof trouser section on Wiggle, the Event trouser is currently £96
  • I've had the cheaper ones but they soon feel like bin liners once you work up a bit of a sweat. If you can afford it a good pair of Gore Tex or Event pants work great. I have a pair of these which have been faultless although pockets would have been nice:

  • My personal choice is shorts all the way, hairy legs keep me warm. I must admit though around a 20mile stint is my limit, so thats when the cold is just setting in
