No Cones in Rear Hub

Hi,

I just looked at the rear hub on my stinky deluxe 06 and on the driveside there is no cone to preload the bearings, therefore it seems the force of the quick release is all that holding it all together. The hub keeps loosening, can this be stopped or shall I get a new hub?

What hub? Are you sure its not a cartridge bearing hub?

It's a Shimano FH-M525 disc hub.

Well it should have cones! Is it not hidden under the seal?

I took off the cassette to find the cone but it was not there?!

What does the frame clamp against?

Yes, the bearings are in the freehub body, then the cone, then its locknut. The frame clamps against the locknut.

well it would roll with a missing cone i guess, just not very well? would there be any seal left after the bearings have run against them for all this time?

OK I will take another look, it seems when I last looked I only saw items 3 4 and 5, not 7 8 and 9.
