Hi

Ive been trying to work out the best way to blow 1500 quid

I have two options:

1) Buy a Durace roadbike for 1500 quid

2) Buy an Ultegra equipped bike and spend the savings on their carbon wheels (dry days only obviously)

I cant decide which option would be the best, if it is in fact that simple....

Comments?

Better wheels would surely make a bigger difference than ultegra->dura ace

If you are willing to buy from abroad you can get Fulcrum Racing Zeros for £500, which I reckon would go really well with the PX.

  • UKdavvy, there is more than just the groupset level in the £500. get p-x to send you a full build list and take it from there.

I would personall go for Dura Ace and then upgrade wheels at sometime in the future. I think not having Dura Ace might be on your mind ...

Also, I wouldn't bother with their carbon wheels. Wait for the new shimano deep sections or else look at Zipps.
  • thanks for the replies so far

My thinking was that the rotating mass was the best place to spend money on
I do appreciate the Durace build has a few other bits including (modestly) better wheels

    However my dilemma still stands

For 500 pounds (ish) would you upgrade to Durace, buy the carbon wheels which is attractive or add a little bit more for a Mavic Ksyrium ES wheelset?

Ta for the info on the Zeros, I'll try actionsport - unless you have a better link :)

And what can you tell me about deep section Shimano??

I know it's ebay, but they seem to have a good reputation:

I would go with the lower specced build. The wheels are, as you say, only a slight improvement. Not enough of an improvement to make them really worthwhile. If you bought the lower spec build and spent the money you saved on wheels you would have a faster bike for the same money, plus a good set of training wheels.

Hypocrisy is only a bad thing in other people.
