Bike Stand

I amthinking of buying a bike stand suitable to do maintenance at home on my own bike but also friends and family.
I have seen stands fromm £54 upwards and want to get the stand that is suitable but as cheap as possible.
I currently have the bikes hanging from the roof of the garage on a pulley which works well but what to know whether it is worth buying a stand and which one to go for.
I have been looking at this one:
Minoura W-3000 Workstand

What do you think.

I used to use the "hanging from the ceiling" method, but there are certain things (eg removing bb) that really need the bike to be firmly held - a decent workstand just makes things a bit easier.
Haven't got a Minoura stand, but my experience of their other products is that they are generally well designed and manufactured.0 -
I have that stand - it's excellent!
I had borrowed my brother-in-laws stand which was the older version of this last year - he was in the process of moving to the alps and didn't want to carry it. Used it for a year nearly when they drove over and he decided to take it back.
I then spend about a month looking at various options - basically cos when I had it I found out that I couldn't live without it and also when I looked at how much they were I thought they were a bit on the pricey side!!!!
anyway - I looked at a few before deciding that you really do get what you pay for and bought the minoura from wiggle. it is an excellent stand - very sturdy and holds the bike very securely. The abiity to spin a bike round in mid-air to work on it is something you just can't believe how good it is until you try it!
one thing, it is quite heavy and you don't want to be folding it up and storing it all the time - but the weight just adds to the stability when in use.
my only other gripe is that they charge an extra tenner for the tool tray - my brother-in-laws older model had it come free with the stand. I haven't bought it yet because I am too tight - but it was a very useful thing to have indeed!0 -
As posted by someone else on this forum, I've been looking at a few bargains from Ribble.

And there is a folding one as well for £50
Only £2.95 delivery as well I think.

I have the Minoura too - but only paid about 15 quid on ebay for mine. The big downside is the fact that height is not adjustable and therefore it's not very good for things like stubborn BB removal. A better stand is the Tacx Spider http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=T3050
which has a broad tripod and supports the frame under the BB and holds it by either front or rear forks - this is the type of stand preferred by pro mechanics.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
I've got one from Edinburgh Bike Co-op. It's their own make (think it's called revolution). Picked mine up in the sale. Works well and folds down fairly small for storage.0

Decathlon sell a very good one for £35 that folds up too. It's the type that the BB sits in and clamps the down tube. It's very stable and well made.
Hypocrisy is only a bad thing in other people.0
