Just got a new frame and forks and there is a small gap between the top head tube and the headset. Is this likely to cause any kind of failure? Can it be remedied?

are you tightening things in the correct order?
Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive.
  • Yeah, your right a picture would help. If you can imagine where the headset would meet the frame you can see the fork, about a 2-3mm gap. It is as if the headset needs to be pushed down into the frame. I've tightened every up correctly as usual. It operates perfectly I'm worried about things getting in there and effecting any of the bearings, etc
  • Is it anything like this you can see the top of the headtube and the top cap isnt sitting flush with it??

Is this an integrated or semi-integrated headset. For an integrated headset where the bearings just sit inside the frame, it looks as though it's been assembled incorrectly or is the wrong type. If a semi-integrated type - it looks as though the cup hasn't been pressed sufficiently into the farme. What type of make/model of frame and headset are you using?
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Have to agree there, looks like an angular contact intergrated headset fitted to a non-intergrated head tube.

Hypocrisy is only a bad thing in other people.
  • are the top and bottom bearings the same size. some aren't and if they are in the wrong place there will be gaps.
  • Thats a Identiti Dr Jekyll Frame and the headset is a FSA pig pro DH

That was after getting a monkey at my local halfords to do it, so ive now taking it to my local Oakley cycles who seem to actually know what there doing and are very friendly.
