jet wash will kill the bearings.
regular maintainence.
have a read of park tools."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I use fenwicks to clean my bikes every time after use. Finish line lubes and the obligatary WD40. I used a diamond brite kit on the trek. Workes so well the mud dosent stik to the frame.Eagles may fly high but Weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.

I have a personal hatred of WD40 so i use GT85 instead, it smells alot better and it contains teflon to help keep things running smoothly.0 -
I use the GT85 too. but get WD40 free from work.Eagles may fly high but Weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.

keep it clean, keep the chain well maintained, i.e clean and lubed, make sure the gears are shifting correctly, forks working ok, make sure all bolts are tight make sure brakes are ok, pad condition etc..
just basically, just look aafter it.0 -
I use a bog standard tesco degreaser, an alloy-wheel cleaner with a synthetic brush, warm soapy water, lots of cheap kitchen towel and GT85. My powerchain burrrrrrs like a well kept steam engine0

you should really only use WD40 to loosen seized nuts etc. Use finish line dry or wet.0
