The Drift seems like a good freeride bike, what do you think?

I remember when they had the Muddy Fox shop not far from Oxford Circus and very near my halls of residence. Back then (1985) they were top end and I used to go in just to look at them. I bought a Rockhopper instead which was a a cheaper option. However I did buy one of their bar bags if anyone can remember them, in fact its actually made by Karrimor and I'm still using it 22 years later. They were the days when people stopped and stared when I rode past them on the downs (appologies to the people who's picnic I rode through, but really why didn't you just move to the side of the path) and the days when Muddy Fox made real bikes, today they are just a name bought up for marketing reasons. They may be crap now but at one time they led the way and the Courier was one of the best value bikes around and an important landmark in MTB eveloution. So sad that they are now the equivelent of 1970's British car Manufacturers.0

I had a friend years ago who I used to ride with who had a muddy fox DH bike that looked very much like this, this would have been about '98/'99 though. From what I can remember they were selling them at a very reasonable price and for the money it performed very well although he did crack the rear end a couple of times, ended up being given a tougher team version.

I had a 1990 muddy fox adventurer that i built from a frame i bought from a mate cost me £300 at the time and i had it repainted through quinns as i didnt like the paint job, Black and they did the little paw in gold was class sold it as a complete bike back to the same lad for £5/600 aswell.
Was setup with the then fantastic deore dx range (thumb shifters and all)
It was a red/orange colour like the one below awful colour aswell.

Avoid them, the components on the drift are ok, but the frame and maker isn't0

Back in the early to mid 90's they were stonking machines.
Can't remember the last time I saw one to be honest.

Haven't got the catalogue but is that not the lower end models? and don't all manufacturers have lower end models? I think people are being a bit biased, from what i've seen and read they aren't that bad for the money0 -

I had the Adventurer in the mid 90s too. Cracking bike at the time, probably one of the last before they sold out. Remember saving for years to get that. On loan to a mate with no bike at the moment, may still bring it back as a commuting bike some day.
Shame they didn't keep the silver fox as the catalogue brand and keep the muddy as a top of the range bike. I would have stuck with them as a bit of brand loyalty.Current steed is a '07 Carrera Banshee X
