Does any body have the same trouble with their other half as me, moaning about my obsession with mountain biking ["you think more of that bike than you do of me" that bike costs a fortune" " how much, whats the matter with the old one" etc etc etc} or is it just me

Nope, never had that problem - (ex)husband was a windsurfer so roughly equal cost to me on my bike/snowboard.

I don't get any moans, but i've noticed the way her eyes glaze over when i start talking about the difference between this Shimano and SRAM mechs.

And then there is the strange looks she gives me when im on the phone to my friends and talking about lubing up the rear end :?

I've had it the past about various things. Single @ the moment so happily not hearing it.
You could always get her a bike & go cycling together

    LOL, not especially no!

I bought myself my nice MTB last spring, and then we went looking for a nice bike for my gf, and found her a Specialized Hardrock XC, which she loves.

This year I bought a bike to commute on, and we bought her a cheap £100 shopper so we can both go into town, and not worry about leaving them somewhere.

A month later I bought a gorgeous roadbike off ebay for me again, and a couple of weeks later I bagged her an ex demo Trek 1000 off ebay, for a massive reduction - it was a nervous moment when I told her I had bought it, but luckily she loved it when we picked it up, and even more so when she rode it :D

My wife doesn't get it at all and would probably sell my bike given half a chance.
I just tell her to be quiet that seems to go down well!!
The trail is long and my legs are burning but I can't stop smiling.
  • my other half is only jealous of the fact, albeit peeved, that womens bikes tend to come in such sh*te colours! Its the same with outdoor clothing for women - they don't all want to look like Barbie!
  • Well, I was already into biking big time when my wife met me, so she realised then that it was a love of mine... To be fair she goes off quite often singing in her choir so if she pulls the "you're always off out..." card I just return it.
I made it quite clear that it's my hobby and if she wants me she has to put up with it.. so she joined in:)

Have now got her an ace Santa Cruz hardtail that she loves, and we've been to a fair few decent places on it, even took her on the Black run at Coed Llandegla (not a lot for some of you but she hardly rides) and she loved it!
Shut up. And ride your bike.

Thank god my wife doesn't know my log in details.

All this talk of buying her a nice Santa Cruz would give her too many ideas.

P.S. I do love my wife really. Now if only I could remember our anniversary!

not got a wife yet... getting married in January.

Mine has come to terms with the fact that I ride on a Saturday morning. Sometimes i'll have a morning off and spend the time with her so it's ok, i don't get any hassle.
I did buy her a bike (£129 Halfords full 'suspension' thing with the biggest Gel seat you've ever seen) but I don't think she's that interested.

  • its the eternal love triangle...since biking began

    Ride with a smile.
  • Nope, mine doesn't moan at all. In fact I think it gives her an excuse to get me out of the house at times so her boyfriends can come round LOL
  • I just pat the little lady on the arse and let her have some UncleFred lovin and everything's alright.
  • My partner thinks.......................................................................... she knows my log in details :D
