Hello,

I've just bought an 11-34 XT cassette to replace my old knackered one but forgot I actually had an 11-32 XT cassette.

I've checked all the different cog sizes but am I actually gonna notice any difference out on the bike?

Cheers.

The 34t gear will be a little bit slower but its not going to be a huge change.

But very steep hills will be slightly easier!

Anyone know why Shimano bother making 2 different cassettes?

the equivalent rtoaide cassette has about 5 different options.....

something about wanting the smallest cog for lightness, but still being able to get up the steepest hill
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

So people can chose their ratios to suit their riding style.

So are there any XC/DH racers out there who will change cassette depending on the course?
If so which conditions dictate which cassette you will attach?

Hey! your new cassette will as the others said be a little easier in 1st gear. Also you may find that as you change gear the difference is more greater than before.
I enter in downhill races and i will use two different cassettes. I will use (i think) an 11-32t cassette if im on a track that may have a slight up hill or is tight technical through a forest or something so that i can have the easier gears. I also use a road cassette, 11-21t for fast downhill tracks so that the gearing is more closer together and so i can go faster!
    Hope that helps!
