ok, so i've decided to replace mt hayes soles- i want something with a decent amount of power (that my soles didn't provide)
anyway i thought of getting M4s although i wasn't sure what size rotors i want- are 180 mm and should i go for the smaller 160mm rotors? ( my current brakes are 6 inches in diameter)
any suggestions are greatly appreciated,
thanks guys

I'm in the same boat so it will be good to see what replies you get to this.

I want to change the Soles on my Slacker for something a bit more powerful and with better levers. I was thinking about M4s too but then I dunno if I really need 4 piston brakes on a dj bike? Mono Minis were my other consideration. I'm not sure about rotor size (I'm a noob to this MTB stuff) but I do know that my forks are only supposed to run 6" rotors. Weather you can ignore that or not I'm not sure, but again do you need massive rotors on a dj rig?

  • it depends on what type of riding you are doing. 160mm will be plenty for dj and street. however, more freeride-downhill will require a larger rotor.

you need to specify what your budget is and what your riding is?

i do more freeride than dj on my P2, but will the 160 mm M4s be much more powerful than my soles?
  • Soles only push on the one side + my rear one is brilliant :D I replaced the front for a Hayes 9 dh 8) M4's a super powerful!

cool, so an 160mm rotor would be a lot more than my soles... and 185mm is overkill !?
should i bother getting a floating disc?

ok- heres my plan: 160mm mono mini up front and 160 mm M4 behind, do you guys reckon that'd work nicely?

Wouldn't it be better the other way round? 4 pot M4 on the front, presumably would be more powerful, and maybe 70% of your braking comes from the front because of weight transfer.

    yes it probabley would...
unfortunately my forks can only take up to 160 mm rotor.

so, keep the front to a 160mm. just have that size all round; m4 at fornt, mini out back
I said hit the brakes not the tree!!
