Point to note - lots of great bikes posted here but some definitely aren't XC...0

K88 - it's a lovely bike but I'd call yours "all mountain" or similar.0

90s throwback Proflex 856:

K88 - it's got about 5" of travel, it's got Bomber forks. Maybe the XC does relate to cross country but I'd put it in the same sort of category as the Spesh Enduro/FSR Stumpy rather than an out and out XC machine. (usually under say 25lbs).
Still a nice bike though.0 -

Ok..........thanks for clearing that up..........I bought mine for the xc trails and it has stood up ok so far........just didnt like the bombers so changed them for the recon's.
Sorry for going a little off topic.Looking for a mtb riding partner............0 -

Carbon - how are you finding the Boardman?
Not seen a single review of one yet or seen one in the shops!0 -
matt, its very good im happy with it. I had a problem with the chain seizing so replaced that with a KMC X9 which is very nice. Halfords refunded me for this as the bike was only 1 month old so they gave me 26.00 in cash which was very impressive.
It is due a service to fix the shifting issues now but nothing more than wear and trear cable strectch stuff. The components are all really good and I dont think i could have got a better spec to price ratio elsewhere. I am contimplating swapping the frame over next year to something fancier - cove, pace, orange maybe.
I do find myself fannying on with the adjustable forks quite a bit. On the climbs im dropping them right down to 85 mm then stopping at the tops to wind them out to 130mm. Im sure Ill find a happy medium one day. Im not sure how heavy it is as I dont have any scales, that can be my task this weekend. Its nicely finished and is setup with Ritchey stem, bars post etc.
Im happy with it - has gotten me round Glentress black with no problems and ive got Kirroughtree next weekend so fingers crossed.
What boards you got, ive a couple Nigel Semmens longboards and an Iron Cross longboard imported, never get to use them now though which is a shame0 -
Carbon - they seem like a great package. Interested in how the frames compare to other makes.
Got five boards in our house in total - three of them are here (left one is Mrs Matt's 6'6" semi egg - she now also has a 6'6" Bunty shortboard):
Middle one is the newer board - 6'2" x 18.5" Bunty with a bit of volume in the tail. Catches stuff quite easily, is easy to generate speed on and easy to kick up spray (see avatar!)!
The other is my travelling board - 6'3" Bunty but 18.25" wide, very low volume and been bashed around a lot but still works brilliantly in heavy, barrelly waves.
Bunty has been shaping my boards since I was 14 so pretty loyal to him!
Also got a 1960s Rod Sumpter 10ft single fin mal in the house just to look at! Might try it out one day and mow down all the tourists (it has no leash)!
Where do/did you surf?0 -
Looks good - using the same shaper all that time must have good advantages - quick orders and discounts?
We mainly surfed around North Northumberland and into Scottish Borders.
My other toy kind of gets in the way now:

Carbon - it does help and I do get them cheap and provide feedback for new shapes.
Lovely boat - afraid I don't know what model it is but it looks fast.
Ours is faster but much worse on fuel:
The inlaws is even worse on fuel and only does 9 knots - but it's comfy
Anyway, back to XC bikes...0 -
Why are there surfboards and boats on this forum? Can I post photos of my car or my house?0

Hiya everyone.
Newbie, so thought might as well ay hi and post me wheels up.
Long time ago, I owned several mountain bikes. The best being a Trek which was stolen about 12 years ago
Recently decided to get a proper bike again after spending 6 months tooling around on a 100 quid Argos special
So I plumped for this. I did try to trade it back in pretty quickly(but I was offered a not good price:() after I bought it after it became apparent that I might of dishing out a little more abuse than I expected to or that a bike in this price range could take over a reasonable amount of time.
So I am keeping it for 12 months min. Had it 4 months and it is a lot of fun and is holding up. All I've fitted is some fatter Kenda tires and some dmr v12's....in white and they look ace !!!
What dya think of my Fire Mountain ?
