Hi there,
After 2 or 3 years of not doing any biking I decided this year I would get back into mountain biking and treat myself to a new machine.
So here she is, its a Scott Scale 80, love the hydroformed frame (no visible welds at head-tube), light-weight bike for the price. May upgrade parts as they wear out, but dont think any immediate need at the moment.
Unfortunately due to being full of flu for the past week or so havent been able to take it on a proper ride yet but first impressions after 'going around the block' on it are good.

for a minute there mtbjunkie, I thought your garage door handle was a brake caliper... on the top tube...
i worry myself sometimes.0 -

I thought it was a roadie style toptube shifter for your front mech, quite a good idea i guess, lighter and good for trimming.0

Here's my Specialized Rockhopper on the beachat Elmer Sussex.
I got the shop to fit flat bars, bar ends and a longer handlebar stem.0 -

Considering riser bars for my Stumpy but might just keep that "retro" look going for a bit.
Oliver - is that pic real? Very arty but almost looks photoshopped!0 -
Yeah I know. Too many years riding road bikes so I find modern mountain bikes far too short.
Also the design of front suspension fixes the min hieght of the handlebars so someone my height 5' 7" can't get a nice low position without changing the risers and stem.
Anyway risers look too much like the bars on shopping bikes.0 -

Yes the pic is real .One of my other interest is photography so I just combine both and take my camera with me on my bike.
You just have to get up early to catch the best light.
Here's a link to my Flickr site with a Photoshopped pic of me on my bike (look at those lovely flat bars).

I think mine is the 2006 model and I paid £550 in Sept that year so £500 for the 2008 or £450 for the 2007 is a very good price at the start of the season.
For the money the bike is quite light. I enjoy the uphills more than the downhills and do most of my mountain biking from spring to autumn when the trails are passable so went for the non disc version.
Highly recomended.0 -

Ok, i'm seeing a lot of nice bikes here, but what i want to know is how you people keep you're cassettes and chains so clean and sparkling?! Some look brand new, what are you cleaning with?http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss9/ ... lurLT2.jpg

I use a Citrus degreaser and a proper bike brush with a claw to get in the gaps between the cogs then blast it with GT85 to get any bits out,dry it off and apply Finishline wet lube.Drop the chain off ,soak in degreaser then re-lube.0

I blast mine after almost every ride then spray with Bike Spray.
Then after a really mucky ride I Muc Off the lot and use a Muc Off brush designed for that purpose - proper cleaning kit is SO worthwhile!!0 -
