I think Diamondback made a carbon/alu frame back in the early nineties which had similar welds (the carbon was in the middle of the tubes, the alu acted a bit like lugs).
I'm very suspicious of that one though, the finishing kit suggests that the frame probably won't be that good!0 -
By using the term "shipping weight", they are probably including the packaging. For the bike itself, I'd say a good deal of the weight looks like being in the wheelset and the forks.
