Noooooo not eggbeaters! Just don't ride through mud and you will be fine... better buy a spare set too to keep in your pocket!

I almost bought a 120 but decided instead to get this:

A little heavier but a wonderful machine to sit atop.

Decent build overall on the maxlight though... just go out and get it muddy and don't worry about dents and scratches on the frame because you will get them! I used to have the standard Maxlight and loved it... very capable bike which I loved riding.

I have egg beaters on my Trek Fuel and have had no problems at all so I got them for the Maxlight.
    Saves issues with cleats too!

Leaky, I fitted my revelations last night, they make a big difference to balance and weight. They are also sooooooooooooooo much nicer to ride on :) Picture by the weekend.

I found nothing too difficult really. Frustrations were not being able to get the headset from stock from my LBS who had three attempts to get the right one, and the long process of trawling through the online retailers for the rest of the parts.

The build process was slowed down by all the photo taking and uploading etc but that was part of the whole experience.

One thing for sure is no money is saved by a self build, in fact it probably adds 20% to the cost :x

No it is never cheaper to custom build as i have done it twice now, if i look at similar specked bikes then i could of got a felt hardtail with full xtr for 1700, but mine cost me close to 2400, but what you do get is an idividual bike with no corners cut and everything just the way you want it!

PS nice bike, my mum lives in newton abbot and a go down regulally, if you ever fancy meeting up it would be good, as i dont know any riders down there.

Leaky, sorry matey but I've managed to buy the same seat post as you now. It was a bargain that I couldn't resist. I promise to stick to FSA when I buy my carbon bars though :)

I've got a chance to get a new xc120 for not too much moolah and seriously considering it as a 'put in the shed and build one day' kind of thing... so tempting!
