How often do you ride and how often do you maintain your bike? Daily/weekly/monthly?

Mmm, seems odd that you're experiencing so many problems given that you're maintaining it after so few miles a week.

I'm sure others will have an opinion on this, I certanly can't think of any reasons why!

I bought a stumpy about three months back, and it has been brilliant. The only thing i have a slight issue with is the brake pad usage and the cost of replacing them. Cant think of a reason for the problems if your doing regular maintenance,

I know i sound like a moaning minnie but mine was alright for the first 3 months it was after that i started having problems dont get me wrong it is a fantastic bike to ride, but take yesterday for example, i spent all day saturday preparing for yesterdays 4 hour trailquest event in kielder forest, on the first uphill,I was on the big ring on the front and it would'nt change to the middle ring so i had to get off and fiddle with it, thereafter i banged the shifter with my hand to get it to work, then 2 hours into the ride i started to get a horrible cracking noise coming from the frame but i had to keep going, i knew it was'nt the bottom bracket as i have just replaced it and after further investigation i found the noise coming from the shock. I have found 2 different threads on the tech forum with riders suffering these shock problems so its not just me, maybe i am expecting too much but for the price i did'nt expect all these problems in the first 9 months, all my giant xtc4 had in 2 years was a chain a cassette and chainset

  • I have one. Had it since last september and cant really say I've had too many problems.

Although one problem was the seat post refusing to stay up. I bought a new clamp and its alright now. A better post in the future would also be ideal.

Another is the brakes. They have always refused to stay centred. There is always at least a slight rubbing at a given point of the wheels rotation. S'been to numerous mechanics and I've spent god knows how long tying to align the calipers/ straigten the rotors but to no avail. I've gived up but it's not a huge problem TBH.

On the whole I've been prettty pleased though.

Did you get a first free service done on the bike after the first month?
