Was reading that recent thread on turbo trainers, but all the virtual ones had Windows XP

Anyone know or use a Mac to run turbo training software?

As a Mac user I've been keeping one eye on what this topic and haven't yet noticed any that run on anything other than Windows.

If you have an Intel based mac you could dual boot with XP by using Boot Camp or Parallels.

That way you can use Windows for the virtual training and MacOSX for everything else...

If you have a PowerPC based Mac I'm afraid there is no solution.

  • There is an application called Trainer Road which will work with a Mac. I'm just trying it out.

I use a Tacx VR trainer and had to go down the route of buying a dedicated desk top PC with Windows 8 on, just to run the trainer. Yes it is a pain in the 4rse having to buy a PC that just sits in the garage for use with the VR turbo, but it was the only way around the problem in order to get the full benefit of a VR trainer, and cheaper than buying another Mac to partition. Software like Trainer Road relies on you changing the resistance all the time whereas a PC running the proper software such as the Tacx stuff, automatically applies resistance to the motor simulating hills on DVD rides and catalyst training sessions.

Anyway, the PC comes in handy to play music etc when working in the garage.

If I ever go down that route I'll probably just install Win XP in Sun Virtual Box - runs exactly like it was a PC ... no additional expense required.

I use a PC to do all my turbo work. Benefits of being a sergeant I suppose...

I retired as one in June. You have my sympathy.
