Crack in Wilier

Hi All
Bought a Wilier Mortirolo 3 months ago and it soon developed a 'creak'.
Usual checks couldn't find it until I removed seat post and found a hairline crack in carbon seat tube about an inch down from clamp - small - only on inside. I have had a new frame under warranty but I am gutted today on a ride to Brighton the creak came back and sure enough another *****! crack! Different from last but same depth on opposite side of tube. This is a superb bike to ride but is something up with the frames or this batch of frames? Are there any other Wilier M. riders out there?
What the **** is up?

Eeek! I own a Mortirolo... It sounds like someone has overtightened the seatpost clamp though. The Mortirolo is the first frame that Wilier have had built in Taiwan I think, but mine has been nothing but perfection. Thank god you are under warranty, hope things get sorted easily for you; let us know how things go.

    Howdy
    Thanks for your replies.
No defo not over tightened, I may not have a torque wrench but I have been gentle - I mean if it was that fragile it should have a warning!
Jashburnham do you get any creaks from that area? They are only on inside. I would expect it to be silent as carbon shouldn't creak - do you use any carbon grease?
Would you mind having a look at your seat tube - in case you haven't already?
Could I send you pictures of mine and we could compare?
I would appreciate it before I contact Wheelbase -again! It's an arse as I am in London and they are in Cumbria -took best part of 3 weeks last time.
    Cheers

I meant the cracks are only on the inside of tube! Creak is actually very hard to place as the whole frame transmits it. Thought it was
originaly coming from the aheadset or bars! Put your hand around seat tube and it stops though.

    Slightly under size seatpost perhaps?

Speaking of frame defects and Evans, about 8 years ago I bought an A1 premium alloy (Specialized) and that had a problem with the front mech braze being cracked.

Are some of their bikes (last chance) seconds? Was just wondering [:I]

    Hi All
Wanted to close this topic with a very happy outcome for me.
Seems I didn't have a crack at all - although the first frame was exchanged with no questions asked.
After fuming about what to do I thought best to take bike to a local Wilier dealer for their opinion. Cycle surgery in Spitalfields were closest and I cannot compliment and praise the staff there highly enough for their time and patience with me and the bike.
Yes looking at the seat tube there are marks that could be taken for cracks however the opinion was that these were just edges of the carbon wraps so after checking everything else we tried another seat post and suddenly the creak was gone. Perhaps this rather cheap 'Zoom AL Carbon post' was a smidge under size or the carbon wrap over aluminium was not bonded well -whatever - after a phone call to Wilier importer I was given a decent quality FSA post off a brand new Mortirolo all under warranty and I hadn't even bought the bike there!
Thankyou to all at Cycle Surgery Spitz! Take your business there!
I was so happy I bought a new pair of shoes - it would have been rude not to!
    Happy riding!

I've had the same bike for about 7 months now and noticed about a month ago a tiny hairline crack on the seatube just below the front mech clamp. Since then, I've ridden the bike in the Alps, up and down those climbs and the crack has remained the same. I believe it to be just a crack in the surface lacquer and not the tube itself. As to creaking, my bike has creaked occasionally for some time now. I don't know why it does it, but it would do my head in looking for the cause so I just try and ignore it![:)]

hello i have a wilier carbon mortirolo 09 from new, i have loved it but recently i have noticed over the past few months loud frame creaking this mainly happens when applying power out of the saddle when climbing! but also happens at speed decending over uneven terrain. it seems to have lost its rigidity and does not fill me with any confidence when cornering.
the noise sounds like it is coming from the bottom bracket and is consistent with the crank coming under force!
any ideas greatly appreciated as i really like the bike

had a mortirolo for nearly 3 years and never heard a peep from it, not even when me and it bounced across the bonnet of a fiat punto!

I had a similar noise on my Colnago CLX while pedalling and it turned out to be the bottom bracket which was difficult to track down as the sound resonated thru the carbon frame.
These external bearing bb's are supposed to be the bees knees but if they get any play in them then they're trash unlike old adjustable square tapers that went on forever.

thanks old school its a starting point ! after some more enquires online - cervelo forum frame creaks i found some really useful advice ! its helpful to see other riders sharing there knowledge and experiences, it is by no means a compliant of a manufacturer.
i also read that most carbon frames are based on team riders whose average body weight is of 80kgs approx. i am 90kgs (not overweight)just bigger does this mean that the bike will be more likely to creak and if so are there stronger frames that can be recommended ? :?
