2017 Nukeproof Mega 275 build

Postby DirkPitt74 » Thu Apr 25, 2019 17:17 pm

So having sold my previous 2014 Mega TR I decided to build a newer Nuke.
Picked up a NOS boxed 2017 Mega 275 frame (black & yellow), RockShox Yari 160's and Nukeproof Neutron 27.5" wheels for a really good price.

Postman had fun delivering all this...... even the dog was excited!

Forks including service kit

Wheels ready taped, valved and with spare spokes 29mm rim width.

Frame looking awesome!

I was originally going to swap the 11speed XT off the Scout and break my previous Mega and put the 10 speed SLX stuff on the Scout.
In the end decided to sell the previous Mega whole.

Ordered some more 11 speed XT kit for this build instead.
Gone for 11-46t with a Works Components 30t oval n/w ring.
Picked up some SLX brakes for a good price too with 203/180 XT rotors - was contemplating Zee or Saint, but decided to stick with SLX for a bit.
170mm dropper from OneUp in the recent sale with Wolf Tooth remote.
Going with Magic Mary/Hans Dampf combo on tyres which I picked up off a mate who's moved to 29".
Nukeproof headset, bars & stem with Ergon grips.
Sticking with Superstar Nano-X Evo pedals too.

Build will commence after I get the invisiframe fitted at the LBS next week.

Very nice, my mega tr the frame cracked so checking eBay around Christmas time I bought a bird zero hardtail frame and built up a little medium travel bike up out of the parts I had from that.

Will be interested to find out what you think of the wheels, I've been looking at 27.5 wheelset for this bird zero frame at the minute I've my old 26er wheels on it.

Are the wheels already installed with valves and tubeless rim tape?

Yeah wheels came taped and valved.
Have heard the bearings aren't great so have ordered some Enduro bearings to replace them.
Should be built in the next week or so hopefully.

So it's taken me a while to get round to starting this - illness, family stuff and a dislocated thumb & damaged ligaments has meant no spanner work for a while.

So decided that I was going to change the tyre spec, so went with Michelin Wild Enduro in 2.4":

Went up really easy first time no faffing - really impressed:

Grips on too:

Can't decide if I should go with yellow grips.

Dropping it off at the LBS tomorrow to have invisiframe fitted and the rest of the build completed.
I'd normally DIY but struggling for time and want it done whilst the weather is decent and get some miles in before the next round of the Welsh Enduro Series.

Grips, cable outers and saddles are like football boots IMO. Black, black, or black. In the case of grips, they will wear, fade, get mucky, and will look cack quickly.

It's done!!

Finally finished bar a couple of tweeks (and maybe a new fork damper…..)

Huge thanks to Cannock Chase Cycle Centre for the invisiframe and throwing the last few bits on.

Should be getting out on it over the weekend – can’t beat new bike days.

Shakedown in the sunshine.

Couple of adjustments on the ride but nothing major.
