I have always found there to be a nice mix of news on BR. Cyclocross is definitely gaining in popularity, particularly in the UK and US and granted it is the start of the season, but still every single headline recently has been cyclocross related. I enjoy cyclocross as much as road and mtb, but I h...

Why so much cyclocross recently?

I understand its that time of the year for getting nice and muddy but why is it that almost every single piece of BR home page news for the last 2 weeks has been about cyclocross? There used to be a really nice balance in the news, its what made BR interest for people who are into all forms of cycli...

Can you recommend a lightweight guide then. The one I have right now weighs 300gm including the bash and not much less without.

To be honest my bash & guide work fine but I'd be happy to lose the weight if I could.

Thanks, that was my fear but I have read a lot of people who have manage a single upfront without a guide, guess they are the lucky few.

Still not sure whether a specific single ring chainset would be any better than my current configuration though.

Crankset for 1x9 setup

Just wondering what people recommend as a good crankset for a 1x9 setup. I am currently running a 2006 Stylo carbon with just the 32t middle ring but its far from perfect. I have to run a Blackspire NSX bash & chain guide to keep every running properly. I was thinking of getting blackspire monov...

Fork and Shock matching

Hope someone can help here. I am looking at building up my first full suspension bike (not my first FS but my first build), and want to know what should I take into consideration when pairing up frames/shock with the front suspension. For example, would a fork with quite linear damping, suit a frame...

nicklouse: The punctures happened in different place, and on both wheels. I have removed the rim and the spokes do look kind of close in places, but honestly I am not sure what is the norm here. But anyway the spokes would have grown in length, and up until this recent spate of punctures i hadn't re...

The holes are appearing as small slits on the rim side of the inner tube. I am fairly sure its the spokes causing the punctures but what I don't understand is why all of a sudden.

The Unsolved Case of the Mysterious Punctures

I am running a Chameleon with Mavic EN521 rims on XT hubs. The wheels were built by Merlin a year ago and have been faultless, until now. Over the last 3 weeks I have had 5 punctures, front and rear. All of them caused seemingly by the inner tube herniating into the rim, although when I check the ri...

Upgrade wheelset for SC Superlight

I have a Santa Cruz Superlight running on Mavic Crossrides. I am looking to upgrade to a better wheelset for various reasons and have a maximum budget of 300GBP, would prefer the new set so be both lighter and stronger (and preferable wider) than the Crossrides. I am not sure whether to buy a factor...

I use to have the same problem. What I have found helps is to put the head of the pump onto the valve and pump up your tubes, then release the lock, then somewhere on your pump there will be a 'dump' valve just press that to release the air out of the pump line (don't worry you won't deflate the tir...

Thanks for that. I mainly do xc and trail riding, no competitions (yet) but like the feel of a light bike. I was originally looking at getting a new hardtail frame but looking through the web I figure I will give a short travel full susser a spin. I am not fussed for massive amounts of travel as I a...

Santa Cruz Blur(ry confusion)

Hey there

This is a question about the Santa Cruz Blur range. I am looking at buying a frame only but want to know which is the best value for money taking into account the usability, weight and of course cost of the XC/LT/4X and how do any of these compare with the Nomad???

I would like the Maxlight but there are no stockists here. I am lucky enough to live in Thailand but the MTB scene here is still in its teething stage and so there are not many choices available. If I mail order I get stung for customs and excise charges!!!! So it looks like the XC120 is out as is t...

Tropical weather shoes and clipless pedals

I am thinking of finally taking the plunge and going clipless. But I am extremely worried over the outcome (slight exaggeration!) I currently run the Xpedo MX3 platforms which I find comfortable, fantastically lightweight for platforms but just a little too large. So I have been looking at the Crank...

Hardtail frame selection

I am looking at buying a new frame and rebuilding my bike. I have the Rockshox 351 80-130mm fork and although I know it is nowhere near the best of the best it is nontheless a very solid performer and I am reluctant to change it. The problem then is I need a frame that will be comfortable at 80mm an...

Saddles

I am considering buying the Selle Italia Yutaak saddle. I have tried it, if only briefly and found if
only briefly and found it comfortable but of course I am not sure of the long term use of this
saddle.

Does any one have any experience with the Yutaak?

Thanks

Lock - on grips with carbon riser

Can any body tell me if it is ok to use lock-on grips on a carbon handlebar. I have the Specialized BG2 grips and have jusr bought a Ritchey WCS carbon riser bar, are they compatible because it says on the specialized site that these grips are not suitable for carbon bars....but the Ritchey WCS are ...
