Re: Mavic Yksion tubeless

I’m 2 months into using Yksion Pro UST tyres on a set of Ksyrium elite wheels.
I’ve used Michelin and Schwalbe in the past but the Yksion are performing ok at the moment and I see no reason to change.

Re: Baselayers, am I missing out?

The Decathlon ones are ace. It’s the Btwin 500 sleeveless vest.
I also use them for running. Best inexpensive bit of kit I’ve used and would recommend.

Re: Wheelset for a heavy rider

I’m 86kg and have ridden on Aksiums, Ksyriums and Ksyrium Elites with no problem even when I was well over 90kg.
It always seems strange to me that 85 kg is seen as heavy in the bike world.
I’m 6ft and run 40 miles a week and am lighter than most of my peer group.

Another recommendation fir the Supersix. I got one after having a carbon Giant Defy.
Much more exciting to ride and actually still pretty comfortable.

Re: Groupset for 2010 Fury

You might find a Shimano Acera or older Alivio chainset in square taper for around £30 and then you could get a Shimano un26 bb which run smoothly and are very durable. Not as light as deore with Hollowtech and ht2 but still shift ok and the bb would arguably last longer. Your other option is just us...

Re: Which starter road bike should I buy?

All manufacturers size differently so you might need to try a few for size. I’m 6ft for example and have a 56cm Cannondale , a. m/ L Giant Defy, a large Boardman mtb, a medium Giant mtb , had a large giant mtb and have just got large Pinancle hybrid and In the past I’ve had a Trek in a 58 , so you c...

Re: Road tubeless tyres, where and how much?

I’ve just fitted my first UST road tubeless set up. Mavic tyres on Mavic rims. Inflated tyre with a track pump and tyres went straight up even without sealant. Removed valve core added sealant with the supplied injector and reinflated. Very easy. Having said that I have messed around with tubeless o...

Re: Mavic Yksion pro use or replace

Mavic tyres are made by Hutchinson.
I’ve just got some new Mavic wheels with the Yksion Pro UST fitted and I’m liking them so far.
Certainly will ride them more and give them a fair trial before changing.
A big improvement on the Yksion Elite I had on another pair of wheels.

Are Hunts overpriced?
Their 4 seasons wheels are £300. Similar price to other similar options when I looked?

Re: Smart watch/tracker - Doesn't need to be flashy

I bought a Tom Tom Spark multi activity watch last year . I use it mostly for running but also record all my bike rides on it then synch it with Tom tom sports app and to Strava. Mine cost £60 via the TomTom outlet store. Does everything I need it to do. Posher models have music and cardio . I keep ...

Another Q for the wheelbuilders .At 87 kg do I need 32 spoke?
Another wheelbuilder reckoned I’ll be ok with 24/28.

That’s a pretty good endorsement of Hope hubs Ugo.
So rims DT460 or Open Pro UST?
What sort of weight would I be looking at for Hopes with DT Swiss or Open pros?

Re: Handbuilt wheels... the big thread

Looking for recommendations for a nice set of hand builts to upgrade from the current Mavic Aksiums on my Supersix. Weigh 87kg, budget up to £400. Not a big mileage rider as mostly run these days , so tend to be mostly a weekend warrior but occasionally will do a sportive or tri. Would like to injec...

Re: 50yr old guy - Focus Cayo to Synapse or SuperSix?

Last year I had a similar thought process when looking to change from my 2010 Giant Defy advanced. I went for the Supersix because I loved the handling and the extra zip it had. Surprisingly comfort is still very good. Whilst it’s a little more stretched out than the Defy in some ways it deals with ...

Re: Best bike for quality

You could get a nice carbon bike for around £2k. I bought an end of season Canondale Supersix Evo for £1250. I will add some better wheel in due course and still be under £2k. Not so much choice if you are looking for a bike with Campag though. If you wait a few weeks more there’s likely to be some ...
